So to blame the lack of turnovers on the scheme last year is totally ridiculous. He was playing a brutal SEC schedule with a less-than-SEC roster in talent and depth. And STILL managed to put up the 29th best defense in college football.
This doesn't mean that Sal will be a failure or that Sal can't also be a very good DC.
What it means is that this board, when they use terms like "he lacked the fire", looks stupid. When they say that Wilcox's defense was "bend not break", maybe that had more to do with personnel. And when he realized that his DBs were slow, he refused to play man-to-man so he DIDN'T give up monster play after monster play.
