List of coaches that are accetpable to OMGJonGruden

  • Not saying this is a realistic list, but these are my thoughts.

    1) Jon Gruden - i would buy season tickets. I have young kids and don't live in tennessee, but i would buy season tickets and attend the spring game.

    2) Bob Stoops - same as Gruden, i'm buying season tickets. One thing i really like about Stoops is the uptempo offense he's always been a fan of. I know he's a defensive guy, but remember he hired Mike Leach as OC way back when. The he had Kevin Sumlin.

    3) Mora - did pretty well in Atlanta before Vick went to prison and has done an amazing job at UCLA. Probably wouldnt buy season tickets, but would come up for the spring game.

    4) Jimbo Fisher - this would be the last guy i'm ok with, but i wouldnt be pumped. We could compete with jimbo, but clear of drop off from the other guys. No tickets or spring game.

    5) Strong - pretty far down the list. I wouldnt be irrate, but it would be a big reality check that the tennessee job isnt that attractive anymore. No tickets, no spring game.

    Maybe someone out of the blue will surprise me. If we hire a guy that had been 6-6 at Miami the last guy two years, i will be really pissed and wil get Falcons season tickets.

    Yeah, i agree with that. Patterson would be in between mora and fisher for me.

  • Mora is way down my list because I believe he is using the Pete Carroll method of NFL redemption. He would stay just long enough to turn things around and then leap at the first NFL job thrown at him.

    I would also add Greg Roman and Mike Gundy to the list. Roman will be a star somewhere and his reputation in the League has already accelerated so much that he might be beyond Tennessee now and is in line for one of the 6 or 7 League jobs that are likely to open up. He would bring a toughness to this team that it has lacked for many years. His biggest challenge at the college level in the SEC would be geting recruiting up and running.

    I can't understand why people discount Gundy so much. He came within six votes of playing LSU for the national championship last year and has done a great job with that program. He adapts his offense to the strengths of the team and in my opinion is a Mark Richt clone - and that's not a bad thing. Plus, he has great recruiting connections in the midwest.

    I have no problem if somebody stays just long enough to get this thing turned around. It's getting it fixed that's been the problem. Once we get it rolling again, we'll stay there.

    I agree with everything but the last sentence. If this next coach leaves and we make a bad hire then we head down again and it could take years to turn it around. That's why this hire is so critical. We can't afford (literally) to blow this one.

    Would take any one of those five and be very happy. I like Patterson, but I just get the feeling his recruiting the southeast would be a gamble. Depending on staff he brings, and I'm afraid that a guy with that much success in Texas is going to think that he can bring that same staff with him and duplicate his success without having recruiters with SE ties. We have just had such bad luck recruiting Texas kids, it scares the Hell out of me. I love McNeil and think he's going to be a great one for us, but I'm afraid he's the exception to the rule.

    I think people are suspect on Gundy's ability to bring in and run a SEC quality defense.

    Not saying he can't but I think that is what other people are thinking.
