Butch: As great as Saturday's win over South Carolina was, we could have played better and need to play better.
Butch: Too many penalties and too many missed tackles against SoCar, and special teams needs to play better.
Butch: We're 43-2 when we lead at halftime as a coaching staff, and that's because of our strength and conditioning program.
Butch: Alabama is everything you'd expect. The best team we'll see this season. The best secondary we'll see this season.
"They're the No. 1 team in the country, and rightfully so."
Butch Jones: "We haven't even come close to playing our best football game."
Butch on Bama: "There are no weaknesses. There just aren't."
Butch: Alabama's program is based on competition. That's what we're building here.
Butch: We didn't play our best against South Carolina, but we didn't have a turnover, and that gave us a chance to win.
Butch on Bama: "The back end of their defense, they don't let you breathe. They play winning football."
Butch: We used to have blind evidence and belief. No we have results. We have real confidence. The players are holding themselves to a higher degree of accountability.
Butch: "Have we arrived? Absolutely not. We have a long, long way to go, and we know that."
Butch on difficulty of weekly SEC schedule: "It's my job." This is what he signed up for and wanted.
Butch said Alex Bullard was benched to start Saturday's game for health and discipline reasons.
Butch: What we did against South Carolina won't allow us to beat Alabama. Different opponent, different challenges.
Butch: "We've been ready to play every week. That's a tribute to our players."
Butch: I thought about spiking ball before South Carolina FG winner with more than 10 seconds left, because of the 10-second runoff rule.
Butch: "We're playing very good defense right now. They're complimenting each other very well."
Butch: Saturday was "Dan McCullers' best game since we've been here."
Butch: We anticipate Josh Smith back in the Alabama game. He missed SoCar game with hammy pull.
Butch: Marlon Walls has 4.5 sacks because he plays with an incredibly high energy level.
Butch: "We make conditioning matter. It's a mindset in our program. It's who we are."
Butch: "Football rewards those who are in great shape, mentally and physically."
Butch: Some of my stuff is corny, but it works.
Butch: "Alabama doesn't care what we did last week. We have to go prove ourselves again."
