Live updates: Dave Hart presser

I thought that Hart did a great job. I definately liked the leadership he showed us in the press conference. Hopefully his leadership will be much improved over Hamilton's.

    That's a no brainer. Hamilton couldn't lead a dog to a treat.

Wes, I've got a question and I don't know if you can answer it or not. If not thats fine, but I had to ask. In your personal opinion, who do you think the 3-5 most likely candidates are?

Everything starts with them getting Gruden or making him say no, IMO.

From there, it's a bit tricker. It's tough to know for sure. I'm working on it.

It is HUGE that the powers that be are making the university eat the transition costs. This is part of a bigger move to eliminate meddling by the faculty. Let them also suffer from their mistakes. I look for the athletic department to go back to reporting to the board of trustees instead of the UTK chancellor who is under the thumb of the faculty senate. Also, look for thesystem president to make the calls on academic criteria for entrance, instead of a faculty committee.

and a slew of other things.

That's one way to look at it. The other way is that all the stuff we'd heard about boosters being willing to foot the bill for the buyouts may be hot air, which means we may not be in a position to hire a competitive replacement. I really got a vibe from that press conference that he has a coach at a smaller program in mind and he's going to hire him for 2m just like we did with Dooley.

You might be right, but that is the opposite of what he said. The big oney people will pay for the new hire, but the check for the buyouts of the current staff, plus whatever operating losses are being incurred, are being handed (force-fed) to the university. remember, Governor Haslam is the boss as well as one of the big money people. Little Miss Jennings will pay for her meddling.

  • No way the search goes into January.......if Hart take that long, our recruiting class will be in shambles unless we get a bunch of early enrollees that stick with us.

I know picking the right guy is important, but getting him quickly for recruiting purposes is just as important. Can you imagine the negative recruiting that will happen to our current commits and targets if it drags out that long??? I can just hear Spurier "Son, why would you wanna go play there when they can't even get a coach to take on the job?"

Hart has a big situation to deal with, and it MUST be dealt with quickly.

Raw video: Dave Hart announces Derek Doole...

Dave Hart met with media Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012 at Neyland Stadium to announce that he had spoken with Derek Dooley and told him he would no longer be head coach of the University of Tennessee football team. The announcement came after a 41-18 loss to Vanderbilt University in Nashville Saturday night.

  • Just watched the video. Hart did an excellent job, especially on one hour's sleep. He definitely instills confidence that he knows what he is doing.
The way he stressed integrity, I think we can rule out Petrino. He also sees experience as being very important, especially head coaching experience.
Looking forward to future Saturdays that we can put our "arms around and hug."
