First-year Tennessee football coach Butch Jones and several players are speaking with reporters at today’s media day, and govols247 is there to bring you the latest.
Senior Writer, govols247
Butch: Worley is "day to day," and they'll know more tomorrow.
Ferguson in the mix for now, as well.
Dobbs getting lots of reps.
Peterman got his cast off, but there's a possibility he may be available, as well.
Butch: Mizzou's D-line is a challenge. Its whole defense is good.
But Dobbs performed well at Bama, considering the circumstances.
Butch: Josh Dobbs is "extremely bright."
"I think he has a photographic memory. We don't have to scale back at all."
Butch: QB competition could go all week. Gotta take the time to see who gives us the best chance to win.
Butch: Worley had some trouble gripping the ball, too. It wasn't coming out of his hand well. The ball slipped out of his hand one time.
Butch: "Some people perspire more than others."
Butch: Jalen Reeves-Maybin going back to safety for now to add more depth. He's a smart kid. He can handle it.
But he expects Randolph and Moore to play.
Butch on Riley Ferguson's injury: "He's wearing a boot, but half of our football team is in a boot right now."
Butch: You don't want to become institutionalized. You have to think about everything you can do in order to play winning football.
Butch praising Mizzou, saying it has great team speed, has been a "model of consistency" and is "playing for a lot right now."
Sounds to me like Josh Dobbs will be the starter at Mizzou ... but I wouldn't have guessed Peterman for the Florida game.
Butch tried hard to get Mizzou QB Maty Mauk to Cincy: "He's a gym rat. He's a winner. He grew up with a football in his hand."
When will we know the Auburn game time?
Butch: I have a lot of respect for Bama. To reignite that rivalry, we have to beat them. But we didn't. Onto Mizzou.
Butch said he doesn't ban Vols from Twitter because it should be a positive if you use it correctly.
Said they see every tweet that players make, and they counsel them all the time on what to do and what not to do.
Butch praising Mizzou's deep, talented, technically sound D-line. Said that's gonna be a huge challenge for the Vols this week. And he's right. Those guys are really, really good.
Butch: The QB who manages the offense will be the QB on Saturday. Managing the game, avoiding catastrophic plays, understanding situational football, etc.
Butch: "We're taking he approach that (Justin Worley) will be available, but we're taking it one day at a time."
Butch: "The great thing about Josh (Dobbs) is you know what you're getting every single day."
Butch: "You're either a drain or a fountain, and (Josh Dobbs) is a fountain."
Butch: "We take a lot of pride in what we call 'turnover conscience.'" That's why we've forced 18 turnovers this season.
Butch: I met with Riyahd Jones this morning. He could help us, but we'll see. He has to take some big strides this week.
Butch: In order to be a good road team, you have to get the first one.
In other words, Missouri, we're gonna need you to watch film on everyone.
