Dooley: "I was prepared, when we went to this (uptempo offense), that we weren't going to be good on defense. But we've got to be better than we are."

That's a sharp two-edged sword in that statement. He knew, so he gambled an uptempo offense would offset the defense and at the same time put more pressure on the defense. He lost his gamble didn't he? Still, I support his efforts and him...at least three more games to see how he can handle adversity. If he can't make an impact change to see statistical defensive improvement then I'll switch sides. Giving him the benefit of the doubt at this time.

  • Putting Sal in the pressbox may keep objects from being thrown his way on the field- this is for the betterment of the sideline!

Seems a bit late for Dooley to be doing this. But whatever. I'm not very smart. Just seems late to me.

I agree. If we are still having alignment and communication issues working on the same defense from spring practice on, 9 games into the season is too little, too late. But we couldn't be much worse than we already are, so anything's worth a shot.

  • Hmmm? Looks like allwillbeorange may have nailed it with the "toxic" leadership post assuming that Sal goes to the pressbox.

All I want to see is improvement. If it works, great. At the very least, it'll give this board a lot more things to speculate on. Gonna be a fun week...... not.

I hope he's in the box, but we'll see soon. Him going full red on these kids is obviously not working. Maybe they can hang a punching bag up in the box for him to beat on.

I've got to think there's more to this. If he's in the box, I think it's a good move by Dooley. I can definitely see how things could have escalated to a point where no one was being productive (coaches and players). Maybe this will be the start of something good.

  • One thing you can certainly say about our Tennessee fan base is that many of them have really good hindsight. Impressive, not!

Agree completely. Sunseri is yelling, but it's desperate, whiny yelling, that you could clearly see on TV on Sat., along the lines of, "HOW can you not do what you did in practice? HOW can you be so stupid? WHAT is wrong with you?"

On the contrary, Saban yells and screams all the time, but it looks more like, "Get it right and get it right NOW, or I'll come over there and rip out your heart and lungs."

I remember when he was younger and had the rep. of a full-on psycho while at Michigan State, a parent complained that he told their kid he'd rip off his head and isht down his neck if he didn't get right whatever it was he was screwing up.

Obviously, Saban at Bama is the bad cop, and thus the rest of the coaching staff likely has to play good cop to keep the kids from going crazy, but I'm not sure we have a single coach that comes across as a borderline violent psycho. No staff needs to be full of them, but I've about decided that every staff needs at least one, and that one should be either the HC or the DC.

All the kids need a good cop type to go to when they're feeling down or discouraged, too, but don't underestimate the effect of honest fear on Saban's kids when it comes to their fundamental soundness and execution.

I used to think exactly the opposite. I used to think he was a psycho who'd wind up getting fired for punching a kid and/or an official. I also think Michigan State's administration agreed with me. Several NCs have changed my view.

  • I know the defense seemed to improve under Wilcox after he moved to the box, but I don't expect the same kind of results from Sunseri. It's too far into the season. If only this was done a month ago...
