Locker Room Division

  • So, it has been mentioned in a few places and alluded to in others that Dooley "lost" the locker room at some point. Or that perhaps there was a division within the team.

Can anyone explain more what the deal is with this? W/R/K as well. I've never really gotten the full story...if there is one.

None of us know the full story but it seems to revolve around the attitude of DaRick and a real or perceived double standard that allowed him to act like a prima donna. Wes has alluded to his 'need to mature'. There has also been unsubstantiated reports of a less than amicable working relationship between some of the coaches now departed. Take it for what it's worth but it seems to be a thing of the past if it actually happened as speculated. New coaches who seem to be more no nonsense and new players who will push the current players to get with the program seems to bode well for the 'Big Orange'.

  • I also think there was some resentment from some of the players of what was perceived as public criticism of them by Dooley. I think he is growing into the job and that we will see a different guy this year.

agree with this and this is my only criticism of the Dooley hire... we shouldn't have a coach that needed to grow into his job

that being said, I support Dooley and think he is doing a great job

  • Thread title is misleading. I'd edit it to make it a question... Maybe something like "Rumor of locker room division?". Jmo..

As far as this issue, all I know is that some older guys were mad at DaRick after the UK game. There were a lot of emotions from everyone following that game, so I'm sure it was blown out of proportion, and I doubt it's an issue now.

  • I know there was a lot of rumors and reports that DaRick needed to be more mature going into the winter workouts and getting ready for 2012.

With a lot of new people on staff there hasn't been anymore reports on DaRick. Maybe some time away helped the young man and hopefully he is in a better place preparing for next year.

By the looks of this recruiting class he is going to have some competition in the spring.

your whole post covered nicely but this was a very large part of the issue as the season moved along. Gonna be really, really interesting, IMO, to see how this plays out into this coming season.. very interesting..

Agree. One of the new guys needs to step up to put DR on the hot spot. Hopefully he starts to turn the corner on maturity. I am afraid however that he may follow the tack of Crowell at UGA who isn't handling internal competition very well. It will be interesting as you said. Dooley now has options and hopefully handles things better. I think it is a mistake to cater to a player who creates such division. We all know that the the great players are treated different, even by the other players, but they need to earn that deference. Some say we shouldn't have a coach who is growing into the job but I say they all continue to grow or they lose that job. Even Bear Bryant had to learn the 'Wishbone' in his later years.

This year is like having a fresh start without a head coaching change. I love the new hires, just hope I'm no disappointed once the season starts.

LWS, don't you deep down believe that the WR additions that we recieved this year will help that situation a whole bunch. I mean the #1 jc WR has to be able to step in and play day 1 and that does give us options. jmo

don't know how much it helps the situation but it sure gives the staff more options. for certain they can feel better about the depth and if distractions not corrected, just remove the root cause. be much easier now..
