Looks like UGA finally got smart...

  • ...when they gave a 5-year extension to Mark Richt. There are many reasons why I do not like other SEC teams (i.e. Vandy and Franklin) but Richt is a class act. He is consistent with his players and he cares about the people around him.

I hate that we have lost to UGA these past couple of years because I have a lot of UGA friends, but I cannot deny that I like Richt as a Man and I can only hope that he teaches the players that he brings in to be more like him.

Side note: UGA also extended the DC 2 years as well.

Agree that Richt is a great guy. Is it just me or does he remind you of a younger Fulmer? I have several friends that played under Fulmer and it's pretty incredible the lengths he has taken to give (and follow up on) job recommendations, etc. Richt seems cut from the same mold.

That being said- I hope we kick the sh*t out of Georgia.

  • Richt = integrity. I think most people see that. But, seems like every year there is talk of him being on the hot seat. This move shows coaching staff stability - which is important to recruits, and btw, is something that we don't have at UT.

I'm not saying that we need to give a 5-year deal to Dooley. I don't believe he's earned that yet. Even though I like him. But Hart could issue some supportive statements from time to time. I believe it would help Dooley A) keep coaches and B) land recruits.

    JMHO.

  • I like Richt too, but he's now got both of his starting corners arrested this off season. If it was UT, you know they'd be all over Dooley for that.

I agree that Richt is a class act and true Christian (he walks the walk) but he has to get that program under control. The just had their fifth arrest in the past five months (not counting Orson Charles who was arrested for DUI last week) and now, after one starting cornerback was kicked off the team for beating the crap out of his girlfriend, the other starter just got arrested for possession of weed on his way to Spring Break. According to University policy he is supposed to be suspended a minimum of two games. Since they also lost Boykin and Rambo, it should be interesting to see who lines up at DB the second week of the season at pass happy Missouri.

Richt isn't as popular with the fan base down here as you would think he would be. This sort of behavior by his team certainly fires up his critics.

  • Sorry i have not drank the koolaid.

While Mark Richt is a moral man in a lot of ways! He sometimes seems to be an enabler to his players. He lack of strick punishments have lead to his players getting into more trouble than a preacher's son!

Also do not like how he uses the church to recruit. I personally have a personal relationship with the creator and I am not a fan of public displays of religion outside of church.

How sincere is someone who goes to church with Marlon Brown's granny! IMO he is using God to recruit for his school and that is kinda creepy!.

What a load of bullcrap. Coach richt punishes the players much more severe than most. Don't take my word go to the policies of all the sec teams and you sol find that uga is one of the most article teams when suspending players for the type of incidents that have happened lately. It takes a lot of nerve for you to say anything about our coach when you only have to look at what coach dooley did or did.y do with the problem kids you had last year. It happens at all schools, however ms.y schools such ad bama for instance do not.respond to open records request and when they do it may be a tesr or two. Ask gentry with 247 sports staff about their release of kids that get in trouble. It's true of other s hooks also, however uga releases everything upon request. Very easy to bad mouth someone or some policy that you have no clue about. Coach to by has kicked many from the program, but lsu or other schools seem to have no trouble in jumping to sign the same guys. Watch who is the starting qb ay lsu this season.

  • Coach richt was asked by players to attend church with them. Not sure why that is such a problem. Ad a dawg fan I have no problem with coach dooley or any coach that is asked by a young man or parent to attend a church service with them. If you know anytg about recruiting then you know its about building relationships with the players and their families. I can promise you there would be some unhappy vols if coach dooley told a recruit or their family that he wouldnt go to church with them.

I respect your opinion.. But stand by mine. I was born and raised in Georgia like a lot of our Tennessee football team. I am not saying Tennessee or any other team is perfect, but just do not think Richt deserves "saint" status. Heck, our coach is a lawyer. Richt learned some good things and some bad things from his years at Miami and FSU.

Church is very personal to me and I do not think the creator picks one team or another. (except for Tebow)

ps Meant to keep for Tennessee subscribers.

To say that the reason Georgia is under fire about all of the arrests is because they report them and other schools don't is a cop out and also not true. However, let's assume what you are saying is correct and Richt punishes his players more severely than most. Then why do these incidents keep occurring? Does the punishment need to be more severe? At Tennessee we had years and years of these types of incidents under both Fulmer and Kiffin (it's not called the Fulmer Cup for nothing), yet since Dooley has taken over there has been almost none and there is a reason for that. You may think there is no discipline problem at Georgia, but I live in Atlanta and count many UGA alums among my friends and family I can tell you there are many alums who are concerned with the perception of the program.

  • I don't understand this whole Richt is a hell of a man idea, i don't know him so I choose to not pass judgment either way. However, I do find it odd that he is held to such high esteem and his players get in as much trouble as any program in the country. They won Fulmer Cup in 2010 and have had multiple players arrested on assault or drug charges already this year. I understand some of this stuff is unavoidable but just don't see why this moniker is used so often with Richt.

Yea coach dooley really laid the hammer to the individuals involved in the bar fight last year. Why is d rogers still on the team. As far as the saint label go coach richt, its not him promoting that label but what others attribute to him, usually people that hate uga or have another agenda. Listen, not trying to fan the flame but if you want to play the game of bashing one program or its coach, then you should expect their fanbase to return the favor. If as dawg fans we bash coach dooley or whomever, then we should.score t it to be given right back. One more item, ask gentry with 247 sports about his request for open records request regarding bama players, you will find that there are a lot of things that ate not reported to the media or places like the ajc as their are with other programs. Our possibly starting qb was dismissed by coach richt for one indisgression and deservely so, and now will be the starting qb at lsu. Not sure how many coaches in the sec would have done that. Have we had some issues, yes, but because ours is laid out there for and not sure all do that. Look ay rainey at Fla. Threatened his girlfriends life, yet stayed on the team. Not excusing our guys or coaches for the issues, but let's be honest about many sec schools and the players which is disappointing.

Here is my post you responded to..Not really a bash..

For the record Da Rick's diorderly conduct charges were dismissed. Hey at least UT girl's soccer players do not steal grill cheese sandwiches.
