Mark Elder Retweet To Vandy Fan

  • @UTCoachElder: “@clayphillips27: @3HL1045 @UTCoachElder #ANCHORDOWN this is our town! #VANDYNATION” OUR STATE!

Can't say I'm in love with him tweeting back to a random fan like this.

Why not, it looks like Coach Elder replied back to the guy after #vandynation and said "OUR STATE!"

I think it was an awesome reply... get em' Coach Elder.

    Go VOLS!

  • I feel ya. Twitter can be freaking unbearable to try to read. Let me translate:

Vandy Fan: Hey Clay Phillips, hey 3HL (Clay Travis' show), hey Mark Elder, Anchordown! This is our town. Vandynation!

    Mark Elder: OUR STATE!

I think that talking back to a random fan like that on twitter may be a bad example of how to use twitter to your 18 and 19 year old players.

It's not a huge deal, but I would rather see coaches ignore random fans. They're always going to talk...not sure why you acknowledge it.

Whatever. Just a difference in style, I guess. Maybe twitter swag will result in on-field swag.

  • You can't really win with twitter IMO. I agree he shouldn't be responding to random fans (what good comes of it? And what coach from a winning program would do this?) but at the same time I like that our coaches are our there.

  • I think it was a calculated, bold move. I like it. I wouldn't want them talking smack all the time but I have no problem with our coaches letting Vandy nation and Clay Travis know that we aren't playing around anymore. If it is something that becomes a habbit, I may be concerned, but I have no problem with an occassional stern tweet.

While I see your point that it may be a bad example of how to use twitter.. it sets a good competive tone IMO

Yeah, this is how I see it. In theory, I'm not crazy about coaches interacting with opposing fans on Twitter, but if you're going to do it, this is a nice use of it. It was short, not personal or snarky, doesn't provoke a debate or argument. It also promotes our whole recruiting strategy of owning the state, so it's not really a new message where he's stepping out of bounds. For this one, I like it. I just don't want to see a lot of it.

  • They have, from day 1, made it absolutely clear that they plan to be the dominant team in the the state in every way. These coaches haven't even acknowledged what Franklin is doing. Their approach seems to be, "we're taking what we want in this state, and Vandy can fight for the leftovers. Get out of our way."

    I do like that attitude.

We'll see if they can make it a reality.

  • I think it'd be a different story if it was Butch that did this. But since it's Elder, I'm fine with it. I actually like it. These guys mean business. I love the passion they bring each and every day. He wasn't just telling that one fan that this is "OUR STATE", he wants Vandy fans, Tennessee fans, and other SEC school fans to know that this staff plans on restoring the Vols program to such a high level that no Tennessee recruit will even question going anywhere else.

    Butch, please!

He chose that fan to make a point to his followers and potentially recruits in TN. Certainly to put folks on notice. Great use of discretion.
