Michael Dyer update

Chattanooga Times Free Press had an article in today's paper that Michael Dyer has been dismissed from Arkansas State after a traffic stop for speeding. The officer found marijuana and a gun in the car. Video and audio show that the officer tried to help Dyer by taking the gun for him due to his NCAA troubles already. The officer was willing to talk to Gus Malzone (sp) in order to have the gun returned to Michael. This cop has since been taken off his patrol, which he should be, but this is just such a sad story of yet another great talent falling due to drugs and guns. I will never understand how many times this has to happen before kids learn from others. Guns and drugs don't equal success, and they ruin dreams.

The cop: ''It pisses me off that someone of your stature and your ability does this kind of stupid (expletive)." Well, Mr. Policeman, the reason people of that stature and ability do stupid stuff is that you allow them to get away with it.

You've made several post like this. Can you please enlighten me as to how "banning guns" would've have "helped kids like him". Remember, he had the gun illegally.

The way the article reads yes. He was willing to take the gun and return it to him at a later date or get rid of it whatever Gus wanted him to do.

I'm not sure gun control is very relevant to this topic, and I am sure a political debate will get the thread locked. What isn't debatable is that Dyer has made a couple stupid decisions and his enormous potential is in danger of being wasted. And that's sad.

You're probably right. I was hesitant to post for that very reason. I guess I just won't reply if he does answer.

I keep a gun in my truck and I'm not a criminal. The kid apparently is going to learn lessons the hard way. All kids make mistakes, it's just hard for me to feel sorry for someone who makes the same one twice.

This please. not the reason post was made. thanks. nor should it be the focus. the important thing is that his decisions have probably ruined his chances of becoming a pro athlete which i think we will all agree he was destined to be.

If we would just ban cars then kids wouldn't get pulled over driving them with illegal substances and items.
