Most Disapponting Play

  • Last week I started a thread on favorite play- now let look at the negative.
    What is your most disappointing play as a Vol fan.
    Ill start with three
    1) Angie's interception vs LSU
    2) Gaffney's drop
    3) David Palmers 2-point conversion to tie
    Maybe most disappointing to me because I was at all three games.

  • Haven't been a Vol fan as long as most of you guys, but for me Daniel Lincoln blocked FG against Bama.

  • The end of the 2010 LSU game in general. There was such heartbreak on the sideline...definitely a rough day

  • When we lost the game to Memphis when Manning was qb and we thought the kickoff returner was down and he took it to the house. National title hopes went up in smoke.

    David Palmer is a close second.

    The Ainge play goes down as the dumbest play in TN history imo

  • Ainge's Int against LSU because he had played so good that season with hardly any turnovers. That hurt.

    I can't remember the year but it was against Alabama and Tennessee fumbled the ball and it rolled through the back of the endzone and gave Bama the ball on the 20 and they beat the Vols by 1 point.

    Arian Foster's fumble against Penn State which cost Tennessee the game.

    The fake punt by Florida a few years ago.

    I would have to agree with you. Such a rollercoaster of emotions. I was going crazy but it was too good to be true. When i saw what happened my heart just dropped into my stomach. Terrible feeling of anger and disbelief. Especially with how that whole season was playing out. Then seeing it on 'cmon man' was just a cherry on top banghead

  • I have two:

    The 2003 game vs. UGA when we fumbled on their goal line at the end of the first half and they returned it for a TD. Instead of leading 21-17 at the half, we were down 24-14, and we never recovered.

    The worst was the 1990 game vs. Bama. Late in the game with the score 6-6, we lined up for a FG. Bama blocked it, and the ball caromed straight backward toward their end of the field. They recovered, killed some time off the clock and kicked the game winning FG as time expired. That one crushed my soul and still hurts today.

  • Can't necessarily nail it down to one play, but the 2001 SEC Championship game vs. LSU is one of the most disappointing times in recent memory. I have tried to push most of it back to the far recesses of my memories, but it seems like their second or third string QB scrambled at will on us, costing us a Rose Bowl birth and a chance for another National Championship. And even though he enjoyed a few more successful seasons, it could be argued that that game was the beginning of the end of the Fulmer Dynasty . . .

    I had two. The first had to be David Palmer's convertion. What made me so mad about that one was that everyone new what was coming. The second was Cory Anderson's fumble against Bama. I rmember that in that game neither offence could do anything, and that was our chance to go in and win that game. If he could have held on to that ball, there was no way that we don't win that game. Bama would not have scored on us.

    It was 2005. I was on a plane coming back from my honeymoon. The Vols don't do well when I travel. I blame myself for this loss. :)

    I'm just glad to know who to finally blame for that one. I've been blaming myself for years because I told my roomate who was a Vol hater that we were going to win that game no questions asked. You think about it, that was the 5-7 season, in which I think we started the year ranked something like 3rd in the nation. Looking back on that team, there was no reason that we should have lost that much. Sorry, still makes me mad.

  • 1996 UT vs Memphis, KO return, his knee was down! that is nuff said on that whole game. Still the one moment I wish I had not gotten in the game with 20 puls non UT fans!

  • I have been a fan since '98 and I would say without a doubt the most disappointing play was North Carolina being able to re-kick their field goal after receiving a penalty for having 20+ guys on the field. I will never forget that game!!! thumbdown

    I was sitting in a bar on the Atlantic City boardwalk with about 25 of my friends... I made them put the bachelor party on hold to watch the end of the 4th quarter. Needless to say, I had 10 shots of Alabama Slammers sitting in front of me within 2 minutes after that fumble. It ended up being a very rough night.

    Passed on a golf scholarship just to attend UT (orange blooded). 2005 was my freshman year and that game still leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. Corey Anderson was the FB that fumbled.

    the interception Notre Dame got at the goal line in the 1990 game at Neyland. Was our chance to beat # 1 Notre Dame in just a great game with tons of talent on both teams.

    I would have said the 9-6 Bama loss of that year except we had so much more talent the whole game was a disappointment. Not the single play.

Totally should have won that game, and that year in general was Fulmer's best coaching job, I believe, when you consider all the freshmen we had playing that year. But the two 80+ yard TD Runs by Gerald Riggs that were called back by holding penalties were very, very disheartening. I dont know why I remember those plays so well, but I remember thinking those holding calls were very, very nitpicky. Dont those type of calls always seem to happen at the worst times? Auburn had a great team that year though.
