When on this post did he lecture you? I can't find it? Either way I never said you weren't allowed to respond.

  • I am disappointed too, but the way I see it is we have improved from last couple of years even though our record doesn't reflect it. Last year against the ranked/good teams we were not competitive, but this year we are. Now let's shock the college football world and beat bama!

GO ask the following Saban, Meyer, and Muschamp if you need more than 2 years to turn a SEC program around. That isn't even counting Chizik at Auburn who won his NC his 2nd year there.

I can't emphasize this enough. Stop making EXCUSES for Dooley.

Seriously what states are those programs Florida and Alabama have twice the talent this state does and all the talent in this state is so spread out that some of them grow up fans of other schools. Some of u can say this is an excuse but it is a fact that Tennessee is different from most if not all major programs that traditionally have been a top tier program. We dont have ten to twenty big time prospects that grew up always wanting to go here. On top of all this is one word ATTRITION. we just now this season filled all 85 scholarships. I am just as tired of losing as the next fan but unless a big name guy comes out and says i want this job firing Dooley will not help. We will loose Bray Hunter Patterson maybe Dallas and James too. No matter who u hire can u see what a rebuilding mode we are in again not too mention those 18 commitments we currently have probably wont stay and the progress we have with some of the top guys still out there goes right out the window.

RockyTop is one of the way crazy Dooley supporters. He has been since I've been oj this board.

    He's wrong. It happens.

And I stand with him. Dooley is an incredibly intelligent man. Never mind our differing opinions as a coach. The D is definitley killing the Vols right now and it looks like a really stupid idea to hire a DC who wants to change everything during a season when the head coaches butt is on the line. But an intelligent man doesn't do something really stupid when his butt is on the line. He obviously has a vision of where he wants this program to be, he just had to start over again this year on defense. With Chaney and Hinshaw being established the offense is really good and the rungame is really good. Unfortunately in our microwave society "now" is the only acceptable amount of time and a lot of fans(and I'm not questioning their fandom) don't and won't share the vision of where this program could go. And I understand that. I don't claim to know Dooley's vision. I just know an intelligent man usually makes intelligent decisions even though on the outside looking in, it doesn't appear that way because we look at a much smaller picture. I support Dooley because he is the coach of Tennessee. And in the event that changes, I will support the next one. So sue me. I'm a fan. GO VOLS!

I agree and have been a Vol fan for 50 years, have seen the good, the bad and the ugly. I have never once blamed a coach, a player as they do not intentionally want to lose. I would suggest that some people should consider that these are people you are disrespecting and it is completely embrassing to think a true Vol would hate on its team and coach. I think there are about six posters that should get their own board and have fun posting negative posts. I think most rational people understand we have not played to our ability and are disappointed, however making the same comments about replacing this guy or that and why are we playing that guy instead of someone else is old and very destructive to the Vol program. Why not talk about how we can help get the things this team and coach need and that is strong support from its fan base. If I were a parent and listen to some of this chatter it would be a cold day in hades before he attended a University that their fans treated its players and coach the way some of the posters on this board have done. I will be a Vol fan until they drag the orange and white out of my cold dead hand.

Thanks for posting, ronbob. Please feel free to chime in more often.

It is no way disrespectful. He is the head coach of a TEAM that plays a SPORT of which we are all fans of. He has done a mediocre job. And when dollars I spend directly support the TEAM he coaches, I have every right to state whether I think there needs to be a change or not.

This isn't a reverend, my boss, or the president. It's a freaking coach.

You are correct. You have every right to voice your opinion. So does Rockytop and the rest of us way crazy Dooley supporters. Ain't America great?

It's a process and we've worked through the phases. We've been blown out. We've played a good half . We've come close and collapsed. We've just now started competing four quarters. This phase is excruciating - the tough close losses. Hold fast. The next phase is winning these games.

I was thinking Dooley may need to go last night for the first time, but realize today that was just the beer talking. I think this post is right on and we need to let this year play out AND NEXT. The last thing we need is another buyout and more staff change. Honor his contract and let him go after the end of next year if we're no better. As hard as it is right now guys, be PATIENT.

wave Welcome to the CheckerBoard FG. +1 for your post. I think it's just mostly frustration that has fan's feathers ruffled. Everyone just wants to get back to where beating bama doesn't constitute shocking the college football world. Patience is a lost virtue and one I never possessed to begin with. GO VOLS!

Tell me why? You say this but can't back it up.

Pretty simple really. First we'd lose a lot of recruits and be in trouble there once again. A new coach would likely bring in new schemes to learn (you'd think after Clawson, Fulmer, Kiffin, Wilcox, Sunseri we'd be used to changing schemes annually but in reality that is most difficult.

If you look at programs that canned successful coaches, they all fell into the revolving door trap. Mighty programs such as Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Southern Cal, Ohio State, etc. went through decades of misery after losing a very successful head coach by being impatient. We really don't want to go down that same road.

Someone above mentioned 4 years or more of misery. Those years are more like 7, going back to 2005. Dooley is in his second year of recruits so your pain is not all on him.

It really comes down to who you hire. Kiffin would've had us back, what happened there was just really unfortunate circumstances. Who would've thought Pete Carroll would've left USC? We need to just bring in the right guy, and not miss again.

Yeah, maybe talent wise he would, BUT we would have been held out of bowl games and who knows what else? The man is a good coach, but he was a prick. He's extremely shadey. I'm glad he is gone. JMO

You don't know that for sure. If Auburn got away with Cam Newton, I believe Kiffin would've also dodged the NCAA.

I can't argue with that logic but I am truly glad he is not the coach of UT. Character has to mean something. Something the weasel truly lacks.

The fact that he would've had to dodge the NCAA is enough for me to be thankful he is gone. And even if he did get away with it, look at Auburn now. Is short term success, one year, worth throwing the future under the bus ? Chizik knew how bad he needed Cam and, obviously, at least saved his job for a few years.
Kiffin is talented, but just not worth the character risk.
And here I am, talking about Kiffin again.

  • I didn't bother reading this thread, but judging by the title I figured this would be a good one to post on.
Some of you are ridiculous. As a State fan I would give anything for my school to have a rich history and a stadium that is envied by others as you do. Get a grip. You'll be back on top eventually. Maybe with Dooley, maybe not but it will happen.
State, regardless if you want to believe it or not, is a good team. Maybe not national contenders, but a good team non the less. It will be a long road, but I think we finally have a coach and a administration that care about everything MSU.
Good luck to you guys. I've enjoyed the past week reading your blogs and hope that things get back to your "standards." Maybe this lull you are experiencing will make you appreciate winning a little more. There is nothing wrong with being a little humble.

Very classy post. +1. You're always welcome here! And good luck to you guys! I've thought you guys were a well rounded team. I mean you have two absolutely outstanding cornerbacks and one of the best game managers in your QB. Shock the world this year. Hopefully we will be back on top sooner than later!

You guys are a good team, and you're going to have your chance to show it after this coming Saturday. Make us look better and pull an upset or two. And hopefully we can pull an upset of our own biggrin. Good luck the rest of the year ! preciatecha

Will be pulling for ya this weekend. I'm just hoping the next time we meet you don't have Patterson or one of his clones. He may be the most electric player to ever step onto our field. A true stud. I know one thing. I'm just glad that you don't have all the pieces together on defense. That offense is pretty nasty. Any word on Neal? I wish we could have hung on to him. Y'all came and flipped him at the end of his recruitment.
