My two cents on our Tourney outlook

  • For those of you that have now declared UT as having booked their NIT ticket need to relax. If the tourney committee sticks to their process of "taking the whole season into account" when determining who is worthy of a bid then UT is still very much in the game. Yes the SEC is weak, but our non-conference schedule was very difficult as is evident in our strength of schedule. So, by over-generalizing our worthiness solely on our conference doesn't tell the story. True the BigTen is the deepest and best conference, but conference games make up only half the schedule and do not qualify for dismissing the non-conference body of work. Two more winnable games, and if we can finish at 19-11 with a SOS ranked 19th is tournament worthy. That SOS would put us in the top rung of the BigTen on this variable. So, I believe we should be above Alabama in the pecking order right now as Bama (18-9, SOS 106), Ole Miss (21-7, SOS 143 and a lower RPI than UT), Iowa State (19-9, SOS 83), Missouri (20-8, SOS 54).

  • I definitely think its not over. However, I really think we need to get at least one tourney win. Probably two just to go dancing. Today really hurt.

  • I agree with Ryan on this one. The loss just puts more pressure on them in the SEC tourney. Let's get back to one at a time and see where we end up being seeded. I did not like today's loss mostly because some players' performances were very disappointing and I thought we were beyond disappearing acts. It happens. I'm sure they are trying. This opportunity will give CCM a good chance to make up for last year's disappointing first game flame out in the conference tourney. Start another winning streak. I believe 4 in a row would be good enough.

  • Would anyone really give a dishonest opinion on here? I mean an opinion is just that, an expression of a personal view or appraisal. The only thing I can think of to fall in that category are trolling attempts. I would believe the rest of what is said in here is what people believe no matter how stupid some may be. As I understand from a thread several months ago that a downvote is used when you disagree with something a poster puts out there? I understand that is a general guideline and that everyone has their own interpretation of when a downvote is necessary, but I guess I am still a little unclear as to what the appropriate take. Full disclosure, I did not downvote anyone in this thread, I just would like further clarification on these best practices et. al. etiquette. I'll hand up and listen.

    Thanks guys for the upvotes.

IMO, downvotes should be reserved for trolls, outrageous statements that prompt anger and/or disgust, and total overreaction, such as advocating the firing of a UT coach after a loss when coaching decisions had nothing to do with the loss. Another good reason would be advocating conduct unworthy of a Volunteer, like saying we should violate NCAA rules or hire Lane Kiffin as equipment manager

I'm sure there are other good reasons, but those are the ones that come to mind quickly.

  • My outlook has not changed- need 22 wins to get in.

  • I would agree that we have no margin for error and would be wise to get to 22 wins. However, I did see tonite on College BBall Live that Joe Lunardi still had us listed under the last 4 in, and now has Alabama under the last 4 out teams, which is interesting, at least to me that when I mentioned comparing the schedules to the overall record and RPI and see how has the better overall body of work. I am telling you our SOS is really going to help us when it is all said and done.
