Actually, it's not quite that simple. There's a very complex formula that goes into determining a player's 247Composite rating, but it's not just an average of the major recruiting sites' ratings. We also don't say which sites' ratings we use.

As others have said, we have two ratings on players' profile pages. At the top, you'll find the player's 247Sports rating — what he has been rated by 247Sports' analysts — and next to that, you'll see where he ranks at his position, in his state and nationally based on our ratings.

Below that, you'll find the player's 247Composite rating and where he ranks nationally, at his position and in his state in the 247Composite. As I just mentioned above, the 247Composite is compiled using some sort of complex formula that's way over my head, but the idea behind it is to combine a prospect's rating by several major recruiting sites and come up with an overall rating that removes all bias and gives a comprehensive view of how a player is regarded by recruiting analysts.
