No Rogers regrets for Dooley

It seems natural to wonder whether All-SEC receiver Da’Rick Rogers had been given too many chances at UT before his most recent problem, but coach Derek Dooley has no regrets.

  • Wes - can you comment on the extent to which Rogers' departure might facilitate a change in locker room dynamic? I remember several reports from media outlets that his attitude shifted the team's focus last year.

Is there any chance his departure woul e a net gain for the team? Will hunter/bray be more likely to lead a focused offensive unit in practice/film sessions without the presence of a conflicting personality?

  • When played high school ball we had a running back that had more god given talent than I had ever seen. He knew he was good, he was arrogant and selfish. The sad part is he could have gone a long way if he would have put in the effort. He went to a conference USA school and quit one year later because he wasn't "the guy". He now works for a local company struggling to get by. The year after he graduated our team was actually better.

  • I have to Agee with Ryan. Losing Da'rick is going to hurt. He was going to do big things and I for one was really looking forward to seeking DR, JH, and, CP on the field together. But, on the other hand you really have to respect Dooley and Hart for pulling the trigger. They both know how important this season is, both for them and for the program. I truly believe Dooley cares about the players and wants them to be successful. No one really knows how much has gone on "behind the scenes" or how much has been swept under the rug, but alot of programs would have let it go.

Probably won't hurt as much as some of us think. I really believe that with the talent we have at WR we will barely miss him by the end of the season. Hunter and CP is still the potential best 1-2 WRs in the SEC. They still have the potential to be better than USC's pair. They just have to go out this year and prove themselves to be worthy of being mentioned in the same breath. The biggest thing that was lost with DR is his SEC experience of knowing what it took to be a standout WR in the SEC.

Your reply indicates that winning at any cost is the best route.

I don't see that at all in Ryan's comments. Rogers is GOOD, of this there is no doubt. Losing him, not considering the reasons, is BAD. We will miss his productivity, someone has to step up and fill his shoes. We will be better off chemistry wise, I'm guessing, I say that simply because I'm not in that locker room and that's all I can do. We are not debating whether Rogers dismissal is justified, of course it is. Ryan, I believe, is simply stating whether this team is as good, talent wise, as it was before this happened and it is not.
Let's change the scenario a little bit....if Rogers went down with an ACL and is lost for the year......is this team down a notch on the talent level? Of course it is....but stuff happens and as a team, we/they have to move on. Everyone has to realize there are consequences for your actions.......even star wide receivers need to understand that.
This team will survive and will still have a monstrous year and Mr. Rogers will be sorry he missed it. GO VOLS
