Not being a Debbie Downer, but....

I thought our execution down the stretch last night was very poor. I am pumped that we held on for the win, but I feel like this is an area for concern down the stretch and into March if we are fortunate enough to make it. I've posted a ton about Cuonzo, all positive, but I don't like how he handles late game situations such as last night. Starting at about the 5 minute mark Golden would just hold the ball untill there were about 7 seconds on the clock then someone would have to force something up. It appears to be coaching, because I can't imagine Golden just doing that on his own. I did like the call out of the timeout when McRae just took it straight to the hoop and Stokes got the putback. Especially with this team it just seems like they can't play with their foot off the gas and we are going to have to stay aggressive. I was just looking for some opinions to see what you guys think. We've got 3 very winnable games coming up and then we're going dancing...

I feel like I beat this downvote thing to death, but I'm still confused. Can somebody explain to me why this gets downvoted? I guess from now on all I'm going to type is GO VOLS YOU ARE THE GREATEST TEAM EVER AND I SEE NO FAULT AND DO NOT WANT TO DISCUSS ANYTHING THAT COULD BE CONSTRUED NEGATIVELY.

  • It deserved a downvote IMO because no matter how good they do, people feel the need to say well we still suck at this. Come on man! Maybe be more appropriate but that option is not on here.

I got downvoted for somewhat agreeing with you. You would think we said we love Alabama or something. lol

Please show me where I said we still suck. All I said was the execution down the stretch was lacking. Which by the way Wes noticed enough to ask a few coaches and players about it after the game. It just seems like people would be more encouraged to post stuff if they weren't chastised for bringing up an objective point. I know it's not a big deal, but it just irritates me for some reason....lol.

  • So because Wes asked your justified? They trust their defense 100% was the answer. I'm just voicing my opinion as well. It "bothers" me when people try to pick apart each part of a winning teams gameplan just so they can find something to question. At the same time I don't post much for this very reason because I can come across rude I guess. We are not coaches. I go through the same crap as a Soldier. "Why don't we just bring everyone back home", "Why don't we just tern that place to glass", "Babykillers!". All these statement are from people that have no idea what is going on over there but because they see some stuff on TV they are experts ought of a sudden. I just think we should let these teams, militaries do their job and let the coaches (leaders) make the decisions. Crazy comparison I know, but same principles apply IMO. Sorry, carry on and you wont hear another peep from me:)

  • I want to hear from you, and I'm fine with your opinion. I'm just saying no reason to DV me because we disagree. If we agreed on everything this would be a boring place. Also, I appreciate your service to our country.

  • There was definitely about a 4 minute stretch towards the end of the game where they went cold, but they continued to play passable D (I was incensed over that open 3 too) and thankfully the Gators didn't surge while our Vols coasted.

  • I think fatigue would be the main answer. Tired dead legs typically show up in the form of short shots and poor free throws and we had a number of both. I would expect to see a much more energetic team Saturday. However, I actually liked their energy for the most part vs Fla. I just don't think physically they could respond as well down the stretch.
