Notes: High praise for linebackers

It hasn’t taken long for first-year Tennessee defensive coordinator Sal Sunseri to be impressed with Vols sophomore linebackers Curt Maggitt and A.J. Johnson.

  • I don't know if I have concern with Stone snapping with different hands for shotgun and under the center. Will this provide a key for the opposing defenses that will eliminate half the playbook as soon as the OL gets in place. Normally, the QB takes a read, make the presnap adjustments, and still has the option of going under center or back into the gun. Now, as soon as Stone grabs the ball, the defense will know his starting location. It does limit much when the QB is under center, but when he goes to the shotgun, the defense knows that it is probably going to be a pass.

  • Its good to hear that these coaches are praising some of the players on this team 8-4 or 9-3 defently not out of the question but the players have got to keep working hard and getting better

  • i'll tell you what has just hit me. we have got way more play makers on defense than i thought we were going to have. i mean if they can learn this new D and stay relatively healthy this D is going to be exciting. the biggest problem they might have is bray and company giv'ing them a chance to rest. If they know it's about to be a pass, then they can expect to hear Rocky Top next, followed by the PAT team, and a trip to the sideline. biggrin vols

I kind of thought the same thing, but I'm sure our coaches are smart enough to advise Stone on this. Whether that is telling him to place one hand down, then switch before snapping, or to wait before placing either hand until the QB is ready.

Then again, if Bray is in shotgun position before the play starts, it's not like there's any hiding, we are in shotgun. I understand that his hand choice does split the defense's decision to defend shotgun or play-action. But, does that really give them an advantage?

I'm confident our coaches will handle it if so.

As long as it don't roll to him or go over his head im good. If the defense starts keying on witch hand he's snapping with and putting al there eggs in one basket so to speak I think that would be more to our advantage as we could counter with the opposite of what there doing, we do run out of the shot-gun and we do pass when under center just don't think it's of much concern.
