Notes: King finally healthy again

The best thing UT coach Derek Dooley knew to say about Greg King on Tuesday was that he’s healthy. That’s more than the Vols have been able to say the past couple of years.

  • Very informative. Dooley saying 80% surprised me. I would have thought it was less but as the interview state's, implementing and getting comfortable are a ways off. Thanks +1

  • IMO that last 20% is going to be where we give other teams the most problems by utilizing "multiples" to confuse the competition allowing us to "make plays" and keeping them in 3rd and long, create turnovers, sacks etc..
Pretty sure the 80% number includes who rotates where or comes in to play 3-4 vs 4-3. Fresh bodies who best meet the needs of the scheme we're running is where the coaches have their challenges. .
It's going to be very interesting to watch how the defense rotates various players in during the game (up front).
Obviously opponents will start running "no huddle" more to combat rotation and that's where it's imperative our guys still know how to play in both schemes (and be in good physical shape). Good news is when we can rotate we have solid BIG strong talent coming in fresh.

  • Nice updates. Thanks.

  • I like that we will be a 3-4 base with multiple tendencies. It will even work against no huddle offenses. You could slide J. Smith down to an end spot and shift the LBs over without missing a beat and without the need to substitute.

  • King: “I done got back to almost where I used to be at, and I can bend more, and I can bend at the hips and the knees,” he said. “I’m thankful.”

    Yep...he's a Tennessee native. biggrinheadslap

W/R/K - do you ever clean up quotes so a kid doesn't sound like this, or is that a journalism "no no"???

Generally, I don't clean up quotes at all. it's not my job to make someone sound better. It's only my job to report what is said to our readers. Plus, in many cases, using the exact words someone said actually adds a bit more color to the quote, IMO.

  • Good reading........
I saw on ESPNU last night that UT was the sleeper in the east. They said with the receivers we have for Bray to throw to, we could be very explosive.
    I agree.
we shall see! 22 more days......
