Notes: No regrets for assistants

Even now that Tennessee coach Derek Dooley has been fired, several of the Vols' first-year assistant coaches said Wednesday that they had no regrets about coming to UT.

  • EXCELLENT article Ryan! Reading the comments made me feel somewhat melancholy. You really hit a home run getting the personal costs of being an NCAA coach.

The most telling quote in the story for me was Coach Sal's comments: "Personally, I wanted to come to Tennessee. I’ve always wanted to come to Tennessee, and even though WE got fired, I have no regrets on coming here. I’d do it all again. I told Coach Dooley that.”

    Just, WOW! blank

    Classy, classy quote.
But I believe the article credited it to Coach Sam Pittman.

You are right Lostball - thanks for the correction. Hopefully Pittman is not one that is going to be fired.

  • Personally I would like to see Graham , Ansley , Hinshaw and Chaney retained . Sal while a great recruiter did not live up to expectations as DC, I would consider keeping him to coach LB's .

  • Ryan great stuff again...you guys are killing it this week. Great read and you know what I think most people can read this article and see why it was such a hard decision for Coach Hart to go in this direction and why no one wanted to see these guys or Coach Dooley go! In the end lets hope that this was a good decision and we are better off for it!!!!!

  • Funny comment sense it was coach Sal's group that could stop your little sister from scoring.

  • Sunseri came across as a scam artist for taking all the money he was paid and performing so poorly. He lost me when his son gave the cutthroat gesture toward the school playing his father $2.4 million. Total lack of class.

  • I believe and hope that Graham and Pittman will be retained by the new head coach. Both those groups really improved this year. And they are reported to be excellent recruiters.

I agree with most of that except Chaney. I could go either way on him. He seems to be a pass-happy coach in a league that needs a strong running game to survive. And sometimes his play calling has left me scratching my head.

I'd also add Pittman to that list... the O-line has dramatically improved this year and the players seem to really like him.
