Notes: Starters to miss scrimmage

The Tennessee football team likely will be without at least a couple of projected starters once again today during its second and final preseason scrimmage.

  • Well this is very concerning news regarding Lathers. 2 scrimmages in a row he won't participate in, and now he is limping around. I know the coaches are trying to get AJ to learn as much as possible, but it would be nice if the full front 7 could scrimmage together once.

Its not a stupid question until you ask it.

  • Well look at it this way folks, would you rather hear he was doing fine no nicks and bruises? Of course, but that could mean they haven't progressed as much as we wish in the off season. Fatigue can go away with time, as do nicks and bruises. Limps go away too, but can vary in reasons and length to go away. The pure fact they didn't specify ailments tells me he is just tired from giving his all practice after practice. The time away at Milligan were football 24/7, the whole team is likely tired and fatigued to some extent. It's a good thing and I'm not worried about Rivera or Lathers not participating, cause when sh%t hits the fan, they WILL be there to hold the team together and point them in the right direction. We will RISE to the occasions this season because the guys will BELIEVE in EACH OTHER. Fight for each other and lay it all out there for each other. I didnt feel that way about them last year and the Kentucky game is proof of that. I for one would rather Lathers backup get all the reps in the scrimmage to get them ready to fill in for him during the season. We all hope and pray he plays the entire season, but I'd love to know the backups are closer to 100% ready to fill in considering our depth at LB.

See the thing is this is our last major scrimmage and Lathers makes all the calls in an already confusing defense. I'd like to see all the 1's gel together and play mistake free football. This is their last chance in a real live setting to do so until NC State and you don't have your QB ofthe defense playing, I'd say that is a little concerning.

  • I think Lathers will be fine. Just keep him healthy for the games, because we will definitely need him on the field to have success this season. It would be a huge blow to lose him again, so I'm fine with the decision to hold him out.

  • I agree that Lathers is a big concern for the season. Injury has not been on his side. I assume all concerned are making the proper adjustment. TE position is in much better shape.

  • i think while our D is learning coach sal's new schemes it is awful important for lathers to be out there in the early games till the D has a chance to gel and pick this up. if we loose him early things could get real tough. GO BIG ORANGE !!!
