First-year Tennessee coach Butch Jones said the Vols "got better as a football team" Saturday during their first spring scrimmage, but they "still have a long ways to go."

Great stuff Ryan. Not there yet but still very encouraging.
If this team can keep up the effort through the rest of spring practice and in offseason workouts, they will be in good position once fall practice begins.
Great job! I love the notes!!
Keep pushing these guys, I know there's a fb team in there somewhere..GBO!!
I don't think anyone really expected them to look great after only a few practices. New systems, new coaches, new practice schedules, etc. have to be tough to adjust to in just a week. Nothing unexpected here. Keep up the effort and cut out mental errors, those should be the expectations for the first week. Good to hear they are working hard.
I am impressed with the presence of our players around the FB building in the evenings. This team may become very close as they learn and develop. That certainly adds to team chemistry which is so important IMO. I want my team to play for themselves and for each other on every play. I believe that has been missing for some time in the Tennessee program. After a short period of time, I am pleased with the state of the program under CBJ and staff.
I've heard several people state that under the prior staff, the football complex was a ghost town at nights and "off" days. It sounds like there's almost always some coaches/players around now. That says a lot about the willingness of the players to get better for next season.
Great read! Hope our guys/coaches get to see the reward for working so hard this fall. Rise To The Top! Go Vols!
That our defense won is disturbing but probably not surprising. Any coaching at all would be a huge improvement over the Sunseri experiment. Good to see attitude comments - keep believing and keep pushing.
I'm liking it, but I said the same thing with Dooley during the same time frame. It just "feels" different this time.
Recruits talking family atmosphere, Jones lighting the team up, players staying late, etc...
And the Defence seems to have a chip on their shoulder, which is great!
Dang auto correct - GO VOLS!
Ryan, how were the running backs looking? It seems like night and day from this staff to the previous one.
good read , thanks
