Notes: Vols still discussing Dooley

Tennessee coach Derek Dooley’s status remained a hot topic Tuesday, but the Vols’ players insisted they still didn’t know anything about his fate beyond this season.

  • Bray's attitude is awful. He admitted he wasn't paying attention on the quick kick? Really? How many other times in his career has he not been paying attention? Judging by his record as a starter, he doesn't pay attention very often. With an attitude like that the NFL won't pay attention to him. Time for him to move on.

  • Best QB in the country except he's dead from the neck up! If he had Manning's head and work ethic good grief how good he could be!

yeah, you are right. He's terrible. I mean he is only rewriting the record book at UT in passing stats, and putting up 35 pts a game. Definitely time for him to move on.

"how good could he be"?? Are you folks watching the games? He is the best qb to wear orange this side of Peyton manning. Guy has been just a witch throwing the ball. Look at his stats this year and I dare you to name a qb you would rather have. Unbelievable. Seriously unbelievable.

    frostyvol

  • His personal stats are indeed outstanding. Physically he is a very talented QB. Just think how good he would have been if he were more mentally mature. I hate to see such potential be neglected.

My post never said that Bray was terrible. Where did you get the idea that I was saying he's terrible? I said his attitude is awful and his record isn't very good. headslap

riight..you just said the NFL won't pay any attention to him and "its time for him to move on"...he has a passer rating of 150, throwing for 320 yards a game with 29 td.. Who would you rather have if you want him to "move on"? C'mon man.

  • Boy has to grow up. Period.

  • TB plays his heart out for this team. Love the guys swagger and what he brings. Criticize him all you want, his play this year has been stellar. Like Dooley said early in the year,"I wouldn't trade him". He is statistically one of the best qbs in the nation. You folks have short memories. Not going to name names, but we haven't had the best luck at qb recently before Bray. Folks will miss him when he is gone.

    frostyvol

  • Hell I miss Steve Alatorre. It will pass.

  • Bray is an absolute knucklehead! What NFL team would make him a first round draft pick? He's got all the talent in the world, but talent alone doesn't win ballgames in the NFL. In fact, I think we may be better off as a team next year without Bray...and yes, I realize how ridiculous that sounds given his numbers this year, but he just doesn't seem like a winner to me. With that said, he's our QB so I'll support him. Go Vols!!!

he scores points. A LOT of points. Pretty sure that's the object of the qb. Last I checked he doesn't play D. Guy has to pretty much score on every possession to get a win. Bray isn't the reason we are losing. On any other UT team he would be a hero, but because he had the misfortune of being on the team with the worst defense in school history, his brilliant season is not only unrecognized, but criticized. Terribly unfair to him.

I'm just curious - how was your maturity level at his age? Were you a leader of such an important endeavor as an SEC football team? Did you always do everything right? Were you in the spotlight having everything you did and said scrutinized by hundreds of people?

I was always told not to judge someone until you had walked in his shoes.

There isn't one single reason why we are losing. He can chuck it all over the field but when it comes time to win a game and the ball is in his hands we lose. See UGA, Miss St., and SC. I won't even go into his 4th quarter performance against UF. Much like Dooley you'd think he would've accidentally won a game by now.

  • Couple of things. First, I agree with what most posters are saying. Yes TB has put up amazing numbers, but it is his lack of mental commitment that has held him back in the big games this season. You look at Florida, UGA, Miss ST, Bama, SC, and even here in the Mizzou game he just doesn't think things through. This isn't a bash on him as a physically gifted QB, but it is meant to point out that if he is to succeed at the next level he has got to take it more seriously. I love watching the kid play, but in some of these games you must admit he's hurt us.

The other point that jumped out at me was this statement by Hood: "“I think, for a few of the younger guys who are playing, that’s good motivation for them because they feel like, any time they do something good, they’re going to get a pat on the back. And you don’t always look for that, but sometimes it helps, especially on defense.” I find it very telling that Hood points out that you don't expect to hear good job. I've been curious as to how much of an effect CSS's coaching style was having on the team. These guys on DE seem to play sometimes like a group who are afraid to make the play because they are afraid of messing up.

Bray's maturity is a big issue. He does not yet demonstrate the ability to maintain focus when the game is on the line. Talented kid, ridiculously so, but at nearly 21 years old, it's time for him to become a man.

And to put it in perspective, an SEC football team is not that important of an endeavor. At 21 I was a senior NCO in the Navy leading a team of 30 sailors in support of national defense efforts. I like to think part of this was because I am special, but in truth, it was because I could handle the pressure and ensure those around me could do the same on actual important endeavors. I know of hundreds of college age adults that can maintain focus every day. We shouldn't lower our expectations based solely on the fact the people are in college instead of the military.

My maturity level at his age didn't matter, I wasn't an SEC QB and the leader of an SEC football team.

  • Who wouldnt have good stats with CP,ZR,MR,and JH as receivers the only stat that matters is the big W, and what does that stat look like for him look at his stats with 2 min left in the 4th and tell me how he lines up.2 picks and a fumble in Georgia game.
