***OFFICIAL GAME DAY THREAD, TENNESSEE AT KENTUCKY***

  • MiltonVol said...

I don't think I've commented on it much this year on the boards, but I CAN sit here and tell you that this game was not lost due to Chaney's playcalling. How do I know? I watched the game. Receivers were open all game long, and NOT. MAKING. PLAYS. That's not on Chaney. If he calls a play which results in the receiver being in the right spot at the right time, it's on the PLAYERS to make the throw/catch. Period.

2nd and goal on the 8. You like the wildcat call! Are you kidding me. We had not run for 8 yards all day. Let Bray throw 2 times.

I have zero problem with the call. I have a problem with 1) Neal botching the snap, and then 2) Neal STANDING STILL STARING AT THE BALL while a Kentucky player falls on it.

  • Bad execution from the players prevented us from finding out whether wildcat at 2nd down on the 8 was truly a bad call, since they never executed the damn play.

  • Look we are both emotional right now and that's what a true fan should be right NOW, but I don't think a throw first run second offense will win in the sec. Will we win ten 8 to 10 games a year with that offense in the sec? Yes! Look at Arkansas. But can we win a sec championship? No!!! Look at the teams that win this confrence. Alabama, auburn, even Florida when they had tebow! Established the run and threw off
    Play action!

  • I would only make a change at OC if I had a great option lined up. I can't come up with a realistic name, so I keep chaney.

Horrrrible Call. We may have not had an 8 yard run the entire day, what makes you think we will there? Put the ball in our best players hands. So you are conceding we would've had to go for it on 3rd down as well? Why not try and score on 2nd. It's just poor.

Who's decision was it to keep Bray in the game when it was obvious he was off-target on the majority of his throws?

I have to agree with Milton on this one. Lot of passes were overthrown, underthrown, wide left, wide right, etc. Bray was clearly off today.

I'm disappointed we lost, but not emotional. I think Dooley agrees with you that we want a power running game that can set up play action. I want that too. Problem is, we don't have the players to make that happen. We do not have a power RB, nor a mean offensive line that owns the LOS. We have a great QB who is fighting injury, and a couple talented receivers. Best chance to win this game was to throw. Poole proved, yet again, that he is not a reliable SEC back. So, yeah, I think the coaches called a game that tried to take advantages of the players we have, not the players we wish we had. And I think the playcalling had us in position to win the game, but the players quit on the field, didn't focus, lost their mojo, whatever you want to call it. They have to learn how to man up, otherwise it won't matter how much talent we have on the field, the first play that doesn't go their way will make them mentally fold up shop.

Folks wanted to run when Worley and Bray threw pics at the goal line. Can't have it both ways.

Not me we can't run. Not sure who would want to run. You see that o-line it sucks.

We have talent on the oline. IMHO it's the ol coach. He was terrible in chicago and is no better here.

Can we win with a throw first offense?

I don't think so in the SEC. JMO.

We could and should have won TODAY with the offensive scheme we employed. Start a new thread if you want to debate the future offensive identity of the team...I'll be right there with you calling for a power run setting up PA passing. peace

Nope. Not a championship that's all that matters.

That tells you all you need to know about why we lost this game. The players just didn't care.

I not saying could we win today. And bye the way, did we win today with the offense called today? NO! So can we win a championship with a pass first offense? I don't think so, and if you look at Chaney that's what he has always done. College, pro, it doesn't matter, he loves to throw first! That's not how you win championships in the sec!!!

Somehow, I doubt you were taking this position when Bray threw for over 300 yards each in our first three games. If you were calling for Chaney's head then, I will give you mad props for consistency. But again, this is the game thread, not the "can we win future championships" thread. I'll be happy to debate the future of the program with you elsewhere.
