***OFFICIAL GAME DAY THREAD: TENNESSEE AT MISSISSIPPI STATE***

  • It's the same story after every game. It's obvious at this point that the defense is not fixable. Every team is football can exploit our poor defensive line and our linebackers trying to cover a receiver...I'm sick of watching that. We continue to make mistakes that only a team that is not well coached would make, like not covering the kick off. Each week we get pumped up thinking we're superior to the next team we play but we are not. Patterson does so many things well but he doesn't have a clue that he needs to keep the defensive back from catching the ball or dive for the ball?. If we have three first round draft picks, it must be a down year for quarterbacks and receivers. How can we attract quality recruits with this team? We can't and there must be a change. First time for me to say it but it's so obvious now.

You can't fully implement a 3-4 defense in one year and expect it to be successful. UGA couldn't do it, not even Alabama under Saban could do it. It takes time to get fully comfortable with a 3-4, and that's just a fact...

The difference is that you usually get BETTER as the season goes on...not showing zero improvement or getting worse.

And with 2 weeks off to prepare, the defense looked like they had just gotten off a 12 hour transatlantic flight in the first half. There was nothing there.

    Two points:

    1. The defense improved from previous games in some areas, ie, setting contain on the edge. They regressed in others (coverage on MSUs receivers).

    2. The defense made notable improvement between halves, even though MSUs final drive was due to additional coverage breakdowns.
