***OFFICIAL Summer Olympics 2012 (MIGHT BE SPOILERS)***

  • Let's keep all Olympics stuff here and not start new threads - especially with titles that will ruin it for other folks.

    Thanks.

    -KR

Figured I would get a thread going for some Olympic talk/news over the next 2 weeks.

Love me some Olympics. Really looking for to USA dominating and the showdown between Phelps and Lochte. Of course I like old favorites like the 100m dash, long jump, etc. Anybody else looking forward to the Olympics?

  • Absolutely love the Olympics. Men's Basketball, swimming, and track events are my favorites.

I'm looking forward to some Phelps vs. Lochte battle royale! Also Usain Bolt vs. the other Jamaican guy who beat him in the 100 and 200m sprints in the Jamaican qualifiers.

The Marathon is also a good one to watch just to get a good view of the entire city hosting the Olympics, and to sit in amazement at how those folks run that far so quickly.

Men's Tennis - Nadal vs. Federer match for a Gold Medal would be fun to watch as well.

I believe Nadal has pulled out of the Olympics.

  • Love the olympics! Bolt was the story last summer olympics. Wonder who it will be this year? Nadal not in the olympics. Pulled out saying he was not in shape. Have been prepping my two year old son last two weeks to yell USA! USA! USA!

  • Love it! Anyone know how the time change will affect how much we see live in the evenings? I cant do math.

  • You're right Watauga. I'm surprised he isn't defending his 2008 Gold. I was reading the SI magazine today where they predicted Federer vs. Nadal for the gold, but that came out before Nadal withdrew.

Djokavic is still in it too thought, as is Andy Murray.

  • Pretty sure it is a five hour (eastern time zone) difference. So it will hardly be live. Have to tune out espn updates for two weeks.

  • I know I may get downvoted because of this question, but when exactly does the Olympics start?

Djokavic has been a beast on the tour over the last couple of years. Are the matches on grass?

Yep, back to Wimbledon only not in whites

So 7 pm est is midnight over there? So most all the live events will be held in the morning and afternoon est time ending around 5 pm est? So nothing is going to be live at night in the USA.

Yep, I think they are at the All England Club/Wimbledon site.

Anyone else see the piece on Cullen Jones, the African American swimmer for the USA, on Rock Center with Brian Williams? Almost drowned at a water park as a 5 year old, and is now advocating swimming lessons for minority kids. Pretty good story.

That is correct. London is five hours ahead of the US Eastern Time Zone. If you work Monday-Friday from 8-5, count on watching mostly replays.

I remember staying up and watching that relay in men's swimming, when Jason Lezak (not sure about spelling) pulled it out in the end. I was pumped and it was like 2-3am lol

  • I want the USA to win everything possible, but I won't watch an hour of the Olympics over the next two weeks. Not a fan.

    Kevin Ryan

  • Brazil has never won gold in summer olympics. They are loaded this summer and should win. Neymar, Hulk, Oscar, Silva.

I'm kind of like you. My favorite Olympic event - and it's really not even close - is hockey, so the summer Olympics aren't that high on my list. I like the track events OK, and I might watch a little basketball or swimming, but that's really about it.

That's correct. They observe DST like we do, so it's still a 5 hour time difference between the east coast and the UK. Of course, it's a NINE hour difference between Anchorage and the UK... Here's a good reference for figuring out time differences...

  • I would watch and cheer for the USA and Vols, if they were competing in a game of "jacks"!

  • There are few things I look forward to more than the Olympics. Watching them with my brother is one of my favorite memories.

  • I'm English so to be honest I'm a bit sick of the Olympics by now. I did enjoy cheering on the Team GB women's football team though, and I'm sure I'll watch a ton of women's basketball this year. I'll probably get into it more as it goes on, especially as the BBC was nice enough to launch 24 new HD tv channels to cover the games.

I'd also probably be more excited if I didn't have to go to London tomorrow. If that trip is anything less than a total nightmare then I'll be happy! pray
