OT: Blue Tick Hound for Adoption

  • They have one in Georgetown SC named Addy. She is really cute. You can find her on Facebook at St. Frances Animal Shelter. She needs a home. She would be a great Christmas present!

Wish you didn't post that! I'm in Litchfield right now!

  • I have a bluetick and would gladly have another one. If you're looking for a dog a bluetick might be for you. If you want to know what they are like I'll be happy to describe my experience.

Please do. I've been thinking about it for a while, but wasn't sure about it.

  • I'm in Knoxville and would love to know where to get a bluetick hound puppy for my kids for Christmas. Also I know you can get a pup from the Smokey bloodline but was wondering if anyone on here knows how much the pups from the Smokey bloodline cost?

  • There are two important things you should know. First, they are LOUD when anything is in their area that isn't normally there. It could be the doorbell ringing, another dog or cat or heaven forbid a fox, deer, raccoon or possum. This is not good if youre in a tightly spaced subdivision or an apartment complex.

Second, they need a fenced in back yard and a walk or run at least 3 times a week.

The dog will inspect every corner of your home when you let it in. They think they're your security guard. They love something to chew (rawhide chips work well). They love something soft to lay on, love human food and live to be rubbed behind the ears.

Personality wise they are friendly, good with people and with other pets.

Grooming is easy but you need to clean out their ears periodically. Those long flaps trap moisture and lend to infections.

Overall blue ticks are nice pets. They do have a unique personality. Search bluetick coonhound on YouTube and play several videos and you'll get the idea. Especially look at the animal planet video I think it's called pets 101.

  • By the way, blue ticks are aplenty at humane shelters. These guys, if not in a fenced in environment will take off if they get on a scent that interests them. They may hunt for hours and have no idea how to get home. Mine was on " death row" at a pound when I found her. She's dang near my best friend now.

That's awesome! I've got over an acre for one to run on. I absolutely love their bark. We've got some houses around us but we live out in the country so it's not like a subdivision or anything. Just one question, like I said I love their bark but do you think it could be an all night bark fest (lol) because we do have quite a few wild animals were I live? Thanks for your info.

  • I have an american coonhound mix we got from a foster group and she is, for all intents and purposes, my kid. She's an amazing dog. I'm trying to talk my wife into letting me get a bluetick for her to play with, but so far i've had no luck. Lord knows i'm gonna keep trying tho.

  • Not with mine. She loves her sleep. We've had her 5 years and she's woke me up three times in the middle of the night. When it's time to go to sleep, this gal goes to sleep.

  • I've had a few blue ticks over the years, and they are hands down the most adorable, loving, loyal, smart, best all around dogs. I just got my wife a blue tick puppy for her birthday a week ago and she has instantly fallen in love. Lol as have I. Banjo, as she named him, has such a sweet unique personality. I'm just a week in with this one, and he has already become like my own child to me. Anyone lookin for a true companion should definately get a blue tick. Or at least a hound of some kind.
