Totally off topic but after reading the thread about a bowl game in Knoxville, decided to ask:
What happened to that Days Inn on campus by the McDonald's and Krystal's? Why did it close? Is someone looking to put another hotel there?
I spent my last night before entering Hess Hall there with my folks and the hotel was decent. Never figured out how could such a great location not work for a hotel. So many schools have an on campus hotel and UT's is closed. They also used to have tailgate parties there.

I don't remember what the bar was called, but the hotel was a block off of Cumberland, behind the Krystal. The hotel had an overhanging entryway, as I recall, and when it rained, the One Man Band and the crowd would pack under cover to party and listen to the music.

I lived at Lakecourt (which is a condo building now) behind McDonalds, which was also right beside the Days Inn. Will never forget the night when a room in that Days Inn caught fire. I want to say it was around 02 or 03, but it burned for about 7 hours; blazes out the this one window like in a movie or something. There was so much smoke and water damage, it was condemned shortly thereafter. Now it looks like a gloified cell phone tower. Anyways, I remember vividly watching that thing burn....
