  • I've had dish for......oh....hrm..... old age is catching up to me......ok...... lets just say more than 10 years and leave it at that......
Other members of the family have had directv, comcrap and charter (which is like a fart that won't come out.....it just gets more painful as time goes on). I've wound up dealing with all of them directly in one way or another. BY FAR the best company to deal with is dish network.
The bill is right, they don't gouge you, you get good equipment (and if anything goes wrong with it a free replacement is quickly on it's way, and no hassle. Every time I've called, I've gotten a REAL LIVE PERSON on the phone in a very reasonable amount of time (usually less than 2 min) who is courteous, nice, helpful and speaks perfectly understandable English. No hassling, no haggling.... if they have a deal that will save you money on what you want, they will tell you about it, not try to rip you off.
If you look at $ vs what you get, the are way cheaper than directv. I just wish I had went ahead and gotten the joey system when I upgraded my box in December.

I have Dish and really like it except for one thing. It seems they are always in a p&^%$* contest with some of the networks. As of yesterday they were going to drop AMC which has the Walking Dead. I love the show and know some of the folks producing and directing it since I have a couple of rental houses in the town where it's filmed. A few months ago they were going to drop channel 17 the superstation here in Atl. Other than that the logic of the lists and other navigation works for me and they are for the most part a reasonable bargain. If they don't get this AMC thing settled I will switch to Direct after 8 years with Dish.

Don't do it, we switched to direct from dish and hate it! We are about to pay the cancellation fee to go back to dish. JMO

I agree. Plus, as I have said repeatedly in this thread, it was founded by and is still headed by a Tennessee Vol from Oak Ridge.

Support the company that backs the Vols.

  • Is dish as bad as direct is when it's raining? My mom has direct and if its raining or the wind is blowing hard you're screwed.

It will occasionally go out for short periods during the peak of severe storms. Regular rain, no problem.

  • The only time my direct has ever gone out is when snow piles up on the dish. I go out wipe it off and voila all is well. It would take a hurricane for mine to go out.

Same deal with me, makes me wonder if the new equipment is just better or if the weather in my area is just Fairly mild. It has never gone out on me except snow build up which is an easy fix. I love my direct and Sunday ticket, I won't be switching any time soon.

One thing I hate with direct TV and dish is they contract out their techs. So their customer service isn't that great. Well in my experiences they have been a nightmare.

I have only had to call dish once, and the tech pulled up in dish van and was wearing a dish uniform. If I call the number on the back of the remote, they come out, no charge. Even if I am needing help getting a new tv programmed to the dish remote. Or something. Was a contractor who did the install, and he did a great job, but I am sure everyone hasn't the same experience as me.

I have only experienced very minimal scrambling or signal loss, and that has been during the severe thunderstorms. It only lasted for a few minutes tops. Unlike cable that goes out completely (Comcast) every time it sprinkles. Just a note of interesting info: cable tv companies get their programming via satellite. They then via various satellite stations, feed via land line. Dish/direct get the signal directly from satellite programming companies. Why pay more for less programming by going with cable?
