OT: Family lost our dog last week...

  • So, my family had to put our miniature schnauzer Graci down last Thursday at the age of 15. Her kidneys had shut down and it was just time. She was an amazing dog. My dad got her for my mom as a birthday present in 1997. I was only 15 then. Seems so long ago. Graci was smart and a very pretty dog. And had a mind of her own. I swear she cut her eyes up at us if we said something she thought was stupid.

I went home to my parents' this weekend and I knew it was most likely the last time I'd get to see her alive. Sat and petted her as much as I could. Told her I loved her and that she was such a good dog.

Last night I was dreaming about work or something. And it was so real. The dream went on and I got home at my parent's and I walked in and saw Graci laying on her couch still alive. Then my mind clicked and I realized that I was dreaming. I thought "She's gone...you're dreaming..." But I made sure I petted her and then I made myself wake up...

I just thought it was a neat dream. I will cherish it for a long time.

Here's a pic from when she was young...looks like the wrapping paper tube is her whooping stick lol.

Yes. I have to face going home to my parents' house and her not being there. My dad buried her in view of our backdoor because she always hated when we rounded the corner and went out of site.

  • Sorry for your loss but thanks for posting. Animals are amazing. I know it prob sounds bad but my male is about to be 10 and I've already had thoughts from time to time wondering if it will be the last time when I leave or I'll just randomly get sad thinking how ling does he have. Then I'll get home and he will do something silly and I'll forget all about it.

Yes. Enjoy every moment. Graci had been decling in recent years. Always cherished when she felt like playing. I will miss rubbing her soft ears. Tried to do that as much as I could.

No doubt. I have a Jack Russell and it would kill me to have him put down. Thanks for sharing 82.

  • Sorry for your loss. We are animal folks and have some high ground on the property that serves as our pet burial ground so they can overlook the place. Two horses...Missy and Sunrise and Katie the hound who was the finest animal I ever knew.

  • Sorry to hear that pal. My jack Russell went the same way 3 years ago. You think they'll live forever, and you get into the habit of having them. Then it's all over. Feeling for you.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing my first Lab was a terrible experience, he was my best buddy when I was young. It is so heartbreaking but I'm sure you have millions of happy memories that will help make it a bit better!

My new pup has been with me through so much, but he is getting up there in age, so I am going to have to come to terms with this soon. But here he is still rocking it like a pimp this new years!

Hahaha I love it. Here's is one of Graci as a puppy. Sorry she is upside down. And the last pic I took of her last weekend.

  • VFLGBO82 - I am so sorry for your loss, we lost our Mini back in May and I am still grieving over her a bit. We chose not to have children so our dogs are treated like royalty, especially since I am married to a woman who doesn't just want one but wants them all. We rescued Millie, all of ours are rescues, when she was 7 months old and she dies at 12-1/2. May I miss her grumbling. Her is a picture of her!

The best dog I ever had was a Jack Russell. Awesome breed.

  • I have a salt and pepper miniature schnauzer and she may be the smartest dog I've ever had.. She acts a little crazy when she's alone and chews on everything but she's still my buddy.. My family had to put down their 15 year old chocolate lab... It sucks to lose a friend of that many years.

  • so sorry to hear about the loss of your dog..it truly is one of the hardest things to go through. We lost one of our boxers last year to a degenerating neuromuscular disease and it was just devastating. Thoughts and prayers to you. We still have our other boxer, Oliver, and we cherish him everyday.
