OT: Good XBOX 360 games for my 8yo son?

  • Got an XBOX 360 for my sons for Christmas. They are 8yo and 6yo.

We've got the main NFL, NCAA, and NBA games, etc. What are some other good games for the XBOX 360 that you would recommend?

  • For an 8 year old kid I would recommend:
    1. Banjo Kazooie
    2. Viva Pinata
    3. Anything for Kinect pretty much
    4. Any of the "Need for Speed" games.

Hope that helps a little bit! I personally own a Ps3 (I'm biased), but my girlfriend and a lot of close friends have 360s.

  • LEGO games. They're based on Batman and Robin, Pirates of the Carib, Harry Potter, and Star Wars. Not only that, but they're relatively easy to play and the story lines, considering the intended audience have a little goofiness to them.

Sesame Street is probably a choice for the younger one and I'm not sure where they'd fit with the Disney games, but those might be options as well.

  • Definitely the LEGO games. My nephews and me love em. A new Ratchet and Clank game just came out, those are great. XBOX has an awesome selection of downloadable games, many of which are charming games which are easy to pick up it, it may not hurt to look at some of those as well. A game called Sonic & All Stars Racing is actually pretty decent(its a racing game starring Sonic the Hedgehog..) Skylanders and Skylanders Giants are always a good way to go too. If you get the Kinect you could get fun/funny games like Dance Central and watch him dance around. At that age I really liked fighting games and a new one called Tekken Tag Tournament 2 just came out, and it is very good as well.

On a related note, My brothers ex got my 8 yr old nephew a PS3 for christmas and got him 4 or 5 M rated games and it kinda pissed me off. Games like that are not only made for adults but the difficulty level is also for adults, so she is pretty much throwing $60 down the toilet. No way an 8 year old makes it through a game like Assassins Creed 3 without an adult helping him at almost every turn. So, like Poli said its always good to ask the person at Game Stop(or me!!) if you think a game would be easy enough for an 8 year old to really appreciate it as well. Video games are pretty much my favorite things on Earth, I got you covered!

My 9 and almost-6 year old sons play these games all the time.

  • I bought my nephew the skylanders giants game. He called and said he loved it. I think that game is cool cause we can buy him additional characters to add on to it. And those characters are fairly inexpensive so he have additional things to do.

  • Thanks for all the suggestions. Keep them coming!
    +1 to each of you.

Yes, we do have the Kinect, too.

From your comments, it sounds like there are separate 'Starlanders' and 'Starlander Giants' games. I think we just wasted money on some characters, and the 8yo already opened them. Bummer.

My son loves those those, but he won't touch the Lego games. He's 8 and has no interest in them. You just got to know what they like. My son usually wants to play the fps games because he sees me playing them. I try to limit his time there, but he has an older half brother that plays black ops a lot... so it's I really have to manage what he's exposed to and what not.

  • Sky landers, but get the giant because the other characters are alittle harder to find, unless you find someone wanting to get rid of the older ones.
There's a sonic racing game that's fun, can't recall the name, your car transforms according to the landscape( water, land,or air)

  • Skylanders Giants is the new one and the old characters work on this one, but the new characters don't work on the old Skylanders - if that makes sense.

Unfortunately, I found this out the hard way. Fortunately, Game Stop let me return the Giants that we had already opened.

  • What's scary is I don't have a kid that age or have one of that age in my family. I only knew those from my youth football players. lol

Can't wait for Davin to grow up!

  • I have a 9 and 6 year old. They play Mine craft. They love it. If we would let them they would play for hours. We wound up having to get it on our Kindle and phones so they could play it on long road trips. You can download Mine craft from the Xbox marketplace. Can't remember how much but I wanna say it was only 800 or 1200 MS points.
