God, how I wish we could go have George pour us a cold pitcher and order a Vol Burger or a turkey and cheddar! You never know how great you had it until the places you loved are gone, replaced by slaphappy BS holes in the wall run by people with no imagination serving up food you could get anywhere on any day of the year.

Sam & Andy's/The Roman Room was one of the places that made UT special. The whole community is lesser without it. If Gus' is even close, and I honestly don't know, do anything you can to preserve it. Please pay those prices and please pay even more (if needed).

My favorite haunts of the Strip (years past)

#10 - Old College Inn - girlfriend worked there, made for some tasty cheap eats...
#9. - Hawkeye's - lowered my GPA a full 1/4 point all on their own with late night 3 for 1 Long Island Iced Teas...
#8 - Sub Station II (#19 Sub, I believe, which had EVERY Meat on the Sub?) Good thing I was a poor college student, or I woulda
weighed more than Reggie White in college (I'm 5'8")
#7 - (Ivey's?) - Hope I got the name right - they had 10 FOR 1 drink special for awhile, no wonder I can't remember the name...
#6 - Pickle U Pub - at leat 10 decibels range of hearing loss on the Live bands upstairs...
#5 - Stefano's - Still a favorite, the whole wheat crust - Heaven, one slice at a time..
#4 - Varsity Inn - Many meals, many hours, really miss the place
#3 - Last Lap - Could honestly not tell you how many hours were spent here "studying" the art of pinball & pitchers"
#2 - Good Times Deli - Thanks, GUS!
#1 - The Roman Room / Sam &Andy's - Roman Room and Vol Burgers and George - S&A - Many nights this was the last stop of a LONG evening out on the Strip...

  • Great List! I would add The Tap Room and The Library to the list ... Last Lap LOL! I think they played the Allman Brothers greatest hits album all day and night - great memories!
