That's a real shame, absolutely terrible. I'm not a server but I work at a fast food style BBQ restaurant, and I work on the window and talk to customers all the time, run deliveries, and cater so I interact with people and understand some of the feelings that servers can have and what kind of people they can deal with. Personally I try to give a good sized tip every time I eat out unless the server is absolutely terrible (which is very rare). You guys bust your rear end and deserve a good tip. It goes back to exactly what you said don't eat out if you can't afford to tip.

Honestly, one of the worst tippers around is Coach Fulmer. During his tenure, he was known to stiff the servers at the Texas Roadhouse he co-owns in Maryville & was "appalled" that my father on law wouldn't do some remodeling work for free. When my f.i.l. Gave him the bill, both Fulmer & wife asked him "don't you know who I am? You should just give this to us no charge."

I've heard similar things about Fulmer and his wife...not like he couldn't afford to leave a decent tip or pay for his own mean. By contrast, I've heard Peyton is one of the more generous tippers around....probably shouldn't be surprised about that.

Btw the way i heard this story was that the server is not the one who got fired... it was a fellow server who took the pic and posted it. Seems very justifiable to me..either way. You just dont embarrass your customers.

I think the note written was in poor taste and childish. Everyone knows that large parties have automatic tips in that (18%) ballpark. If the pastor didn't want to pay it, she should've stayed home, or left when she read that on the menu. She should've never written the snide and childish comment if she didn't want people to find out about it and call her on it.

The server (or whoever took the pic and posted it), on the other hand, had no right to violate the company policy without expecting some possible retribution. That's just how it is - if you agree to a policy as a part of your employment and then willfully disregard/violate it, then you run the risk of losing your job.

But, TNoak, the pastor didn't 'stiff' the server. The 18% was automatic and the $0 that was shown on the receipt would have just been something in addition to the mandatory 18%. A small point perhaps, but still significant.

A bit of background I guess, posts like this are rather common. More common is a straight up 0% tip because the waiters are working on a Sunday (small parties no automatic 18%). I've seen numerous posts like this one and whoever took the pic is almost always fired. If the person who took this pic didn't know this then it is unfortunate. Usually it's someone who is about to quit anyways.

Either way, that pastor/preacher/witch doctor is a pos.

A lot of time, the server is unfairly punished because of a terrible performance by the kitchen. I appreciate the server who explains during an unusual delay what is going on. This weekend, I got a free round of craft beers from a server who told me the kitchen was slammed and was also training a new cook.

He got much bigger tip than my usual 20 percent, by the way, even though we were in the establishment much longer than usual because of the slow kitchen.

Well pastors are normal people like you and I. Sometimes they have bad days just as you and I and do something they regret. This was no doubt in poor taste, but your idea of the pastor/preacher being compared to a witch doctor and a *** is completely tasteless and unacceptable.

Not me, if the service isn't good, I don't reward the server.

Not tipping or under tipping is shameful. I teach the youth in our church the value of proper tipping. The pastor in this story should know better. The server gets 18% because that is what is customarily requested. If this pastor feels guilty about giving God less than 18%, then she should give Him more...not the server less. (Render to Caesar that which is Caesar's and to God that which is God's).

It is obvious that if you act this way that it destroys your witness and your message. Any criticism this pastor gets is warranted. She needs to ask for forgiveness and ask Applebee's to give the co-worker their job back. JMO

From my experience as a food delivery guy people either tip really well or not at all. You'd be surprised at how many people expect you to do something for nothing cause that's your job. If all jobs were based on tips people would have a different outlook

Your right about the name calling. That is not needed. But I disagree w the rest. Someone in a position such as the pastor does have more responsibility and should manage how she acts all the time. Because of her position and title, many people look to her for guidance and such. Just like a movie star or a famous athlete, she too has more responsibilities than you or I would have to worry about. My opinion tho. VFL!!
