I'll take my chances with "likely to have more fire power" at least with an armef guard my or your children would have a punchers chance instead of no chance at all. JMO

I agree. At this point, if a gunman shows up at my daughter's school.....everyone is totally f'd until the police can get there. If the mall can have security guards, how about let's put them at schools.

I would be opposed to it.

It seems like a symbolic waste of resources and not a real deterrent. These gunman are usually trying to kill themselves, and they would more than likely have more firepower than the guards anyway.

In the vast number of cases similar to this the perpetrator submits, kills himself or withdraws when they come in contact with an armed person. There are no 100% guarantees but this increases, tremendously, the odds of survival of the intended victims. As far as training the teachers in the use and care of these weapons; if you can train an 18 year old military recruit to field strip, clean and reassemble and M16 while blindfolded then select teachers can be trained in the use and care of an appropriate weapon. Use and care can be taught in a short amount of time. It's the when to shoot and the ongoing training that are important. Training creates discipline, discipline creates proper performance in stressful situations. It's an ugly truth that we have come to the point we are even considering these alternatives.
