Wait - Kroger in Knox has Skyline? Why was I not made aware of this?!?

Here in Nashvegas, too. Can buy the Chili/Spaghetti combo in frozen section. Just need to head in microwave and add cheese, onions, oyster crackers and you have a fairly authentic 4-way onion. It's obviously not the same as in the restaurant, but it's close - and close enough when you live 4 hours from the nearest restaurant.

Kroger also has Montgomery Inn BBQ sauce and Graeter's. Lots of tastes from home.

  • Errbody needs to try this Whiskey Brisket.

Stir up a quarter cup each of: ketchup, Worcestershire, dijonnaise, brown sugar and good Tennessee whiskey. Add two tablespoons of garlic juice and shot or two of Louisiana hot sauce. Do not short the garlic juice.

Whack up a yellow onion; dump it and the brisket in a gallon freezer bag; pour in the marinade. Seal it up and let it soak in the fridge overnight.

Take it out and cook it, marinade, onions and all, low and slow in one of those Reynolds oven bags. Serve with pasta, salad and a dry red wine.

    You'll be a star.

I did a screen capture of that- sounds great!
I am not familiar with garlic juice.

Look for it around the spices. Comes in a tall skinny brown bottle in a little box. Most Krogers will have it. Publix, Fresh Market for sure.

  • I'm on a college visit in Montgomery, AL with my daughter and ate at Baumhaur's (sp) tonight. Had one of the best desserts I've ever had. Fried banana pudding! Simply put banana pudding in a tortilla, deep fry and sprinkle with powdered sugar and top with whipped cream. I couldn't believe how good it was!

  • I made an onion recipe one time at a tailgate and everyone loved it so much I have to do it at every tailgate now. Take a large sweet onion chop it up however you like. In frying pan add big spoon of butter, a tbs. of olive oil, a packet of ranch seasoning (i use spicy or a ramen noodle flavor packet), dash of hot sauce, salt and pepper. Toss the onion in and i usually splash some beer and bbq sauce in it. Let the onion cook down slowly till it is almost like a jelly. Top hot dogs, brats, steaks whatever you like. Then take heartburn medicine. I mess around with the ingredients everytime i do it. I use a different one for the grill. Just quarter the onion but dont cut all the way through add all the ingredients and wrap tightly in foil, grill the heck out of it. longer the better.

I've got one kinda similar poor mans blooming onion. Peel onion. whack off top of onion. Dig divot in topless onion. Stuff onion with butter. Place beef bullion or better than bullion beef base on top. Wrap onion in tin foil. Cook onion on grill. You will know when it's ready.

  • Main thing we do in my family is chili. My dad makes a homemade chili and my favorite thing to do is just chili cheese fries, topped with some jalapenos. Perfection. The bbq cheese fries is also very good. I work at a bbq joint and the other day me and my boss did it just to try it for the first time. Used pork bbq and topped it with chesse, and combination of a hot sauce and ranch (most people don't seem to like hot sauce mixed with ranch but I love it). Also got a buddy who makes homemade hot wings on super bowl sunday at his annual party and there fantastic.

  • Skyline fans, here is the recipe I use to make my own Skyline style chili. Pretty darn close to the real thing, I usually add a little more chocolate and cumin. It does call for a ton of various spices for that I highly recommend you check out Three Rivers Co-op on Central.

    2 tbsp. olive oil
    5 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2 medium yellow onions, finely chopped
    1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
    2 tbsp. chili powder
    1 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. ground allspice
    1/2 tsp. ground cloves
    1/2 tsp. ground cumin
    1 tsp. dried oregano
    1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
    1/2 tsp. celery seed
    1 dried bay leaf
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper,
    to taste
    2 cups tomato sauce
    1 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
    3/4 lb. dried spaghetti
1 15-oz. can red kidney beans, rinsed
    under hot water and drained
4 cups finely grated cheddar cheese
    Oyster crackers

    THE GAME PLAN
    1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add garlic and half of the onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until lightly browned, 5-6 minutes. Add beef, chili powder, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, cumin, oregano, nutmeg, celery seed, bay leaf, and salt and pepper and cook, stirring occasionally, until well browned, 6-8 minutes. Tilt skillet and spoon out and discard any accumulated fat. Add tomato sauce, cocoa powder, and 1 cup water; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook, partially covered, until somewhat thick, about 25 minutes.
    2. Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over medium-high heat. Add spaghetti and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender, 8-10 minutes; drain. Put beans into a small pot and cook over medium heat, covered, stirring occasionally, until hot throughout. Divide spaghetti between 4 large bowls. Top with chili, cheese, remaining onions, and beans. Serve hot, with oyster crackers on the side.
