OT: Smartphone Recommendations

  • I know we've had a few threads about smartphones and such..but I'm looking for some recommendations

I'm needing a new phone as I've had mine for a couple years and the battery life is horrid now. I have the original Droid Incredible and have been pleased with it overall other than the battery life. I've always been anti-iPhone for some reason that I don't really know, but am beginning to open up to the thought of getting one and don't know about waiting on the iPhone 5.. So basically I'd love to hear from several of ya'll about what yall have or what you would recommend. I've heard a few good things about the new Samsung Galaxy S III or something like that. But anyways, I'm looking for any and all positives and negatives yall can provide to make my cell phone search a little easier. Of course a requirement is that it works well with govols247!!

  • I recommend the iPhone 4s it's my third iPhone and as long as there is an iPhone thats what I'll get. I had nothing but trouble from droids and such.

  • If you choose iPhone (which I back), I think you should wait for the 5. It could be 5 months, but if your current phone can hold out...

It won't be 5 months. Apple is rushing the 5 out to compete with the Galaxy, which is making serious inroads. It should be announced soon and it is expected to hit the shelves in September or October.

  • I like my iPhone because u can do so much with it. My 2 main problems are dropped calls and the speakers suck.

Yeah I've seen and heard that its supposed to be out in October probably.. one thing that scares me is that I've heard it is supposed to be bigger, and I don't know if I want a bigger phone, I think the Galaxy also has a big screen right? Thats one big plus about my Incredible is the size it about perfect to carry in my pocket and still big enough for everything I need. And thanks for the quick responses

  • Bottom line depends on you.

IPhone=no customization. If your not into customizing, that's the phone u should get. Got a great battery life also.

Android phones, you can customize all you want. Droid Razzr Max has a 20 hr battery life

  • Have a droid but would advise an iphone, but like wataugavol said if your going for battery life the Razzr Max is the way to go

  • I had an iPhone 4 and now I'm on my second Samsung Galaxy (now on the S3), and the OS is terrific. The Ice Cream Sandwich is great. The iPhone is ok I guess, but if something happens to it, you will be without a phone for a few days at least.

Hitting the shelves and being able to own one are two different things in my apple buying experience, but October is probably a reasonable expectation.

  • iPhone 4s is the best phone I have ever owned by far. I had 3 blackberry's and actually thought they were awesome and thought the iPhone was just hyped up. Then I got one a couple of months ago and it is amazing. Girlfriend had a droid and after about 4 months it started to freeze up so she got another one and had the same problem.

  • Pros and cons to both. If u have an android now and like it you properly won't like the iphone. My wife has an iphone and loves it. I have an android and wouldn't trade it for an iphone. They do about the same things. Its just what u get accustomed to.

  • You don't have to buy a new phone if you still like the Incredible. One of my favorite things about it is the fact that you can switch out batteries. You can buy extra batteries on eBay for cheaper than an 6-pk of Duracell. I've purchased 2 extra batteries with a spare charger for $10 and an extra long battery for $15 including shipping on both.

  • I just got the HTC one x a little over a month ago and this thing is awesome, I love it. I have a couple of friends at work with iPhone's and they are getting the one x with upgrades. You have 30 days to return it if you don't like. They have really upgraded on their battery life, I know people were having issues with HTC on that.

Yeah that's what I'be found out, that I'm gonna hear good things from each side of the fence..and the problem is I'm like a girl (no offense ladies of the board) on making decisions, I'm so indecisive especially for important things like a phone.. I mean honestly we spend more hours of the day on smart phones that doing anything else..with their usefullness at work and everything else.
I do like the Android system, but don't really know which one I'm currently running bc my Incredible asks me weekly to update and I try to do it and it never begins the update or reboots. I'm just gonna have to go into Verizon blindfolded and pick one I guess..

  • I got the original iPhone when they were released, two years later I upgraded to the 3Gs and two years after that upgraded to the 4s. As long as Apple is making iPhones that is what I'll own. Can't go wrong with it in my opinion.

There are many signatures in the world....this one is mine!

  • Apple is not "rushing" the release of the iPhone 5 to compete with the Galaxy SIII - they moved to an October release schedule last year for the phone. That being said, while nobody knows for sure what hardware will be in the new iPhone, chances are it will have the same chip as the new iPad, as well as LTE capabilities.

iOS 6 is going to being a lot to the table with it - I'm currently running it on my 4S (perks of being an iOS developer). Siri gets a nice update, and has been tweaked with sports fans in mind.

To me personally, the SIII is a bit on the large size (it's closer in size to the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 than the iPhone), although it does have some nice hardware inside. Because of my position with my employer, I have access to every smartphone we carry, and I still prefer the iPhone to any Android handset.

if you are seriously considering an iPhone, I'd suggest waiting until the phone is released and then deciding between iOS and Android. If nothing else, the 4s will drop in price once that phone is released.

  • Wouldn't trade the iPhone for any other phone, this site works great with it.
