How do we know it's rape? Sexual assault could be many different things. Groping someone, or unwanted touching. There are many details that seem to be missing.
It's all bad whatever it is. Just curious.

We don't. I said presumably because of two sentences ("Jeanne Clery, for whom the act is named, was herself a rape victim." and "...as well as the dangerous threat that a "rape culture" poses to our society.") that seemed to point that way.

And certainly not trying to stoke any flames here, but has he been convicted of sexual assault or is there just an accusation and a police report? Prematurely disclosing these kinds of details to the press severely prejudices any person's defense. This is particularly true under the relaxed standards of a Title IX proceeding. The presumption of innocence is one of the most important components of the American criminal justice system.

No details that could impact a person's defense were disclosed. No victim name and no assailant name have been mentioned. The identities of any and all parties involved are protected. And, judging by the way the incident has been handled so far, if any charges are brought, I doubt it'll get any press unless the University and/or UTPD has a serious change in priorities. Robberies and assaults are broadcast to the student body left and right, even before the facts are straightened out.

If the suspect was charged with a crime, it generates a public record. Considering the date of the alleged offense (Oct. 27), if there are no charges now, there probably won't ever be.
