  • Wes, how's the eye this morning?

  • He'll be asleep for a while. I'm not waking him up until closer to his appointment time (which is 1:45).

And it looks like he won't be able to make today's practice, either. But that's OK. I'll be there, and we'll have our usual coverage of today's opening practice. But, yes, right now it appears Wes is down for the count.

Rumor has it that you brought a Raccoon inside to let him pee on Wes' beard while he's knocked out on meds...

I wouldn't go near a raccoon unless it was taxidermied and mounted on the wall.

    Also, ew.

Is it true that Wes is not sick, but is actually off filming "Escape from Knoxville"? Scruffy beard, eyepatch...he fits perfectly.

I kid, I kid. Tell Snake Plisskin (aka Wes Rucker) to take care of himself. Ryno is doing his thing and taking care of business.

Without a doubt, which is why Kurt Russell was lifted for a reliever.

  • Going to a new doc right now.

Eye still hurts like crazy, but I'm also still loopy on pain meds.

Hopefully I'll know what the heck's going on here in a bit.

  • It's either a nasty corneal abrasion or some kind of viral infection. They're not sure yet. But they gave me a drop that let me finally open it halfway. I can't see much out of it, but it's halfway open now. Progress.

  • It might be Tuesday before I can really see out of it, but I'm trying to talk them into letting me wear a patch and get back to work.

    Wes,

My wife has been dealing with an eye issue for over 2 years. Her disease is called "uveitis". We go to a specialist there is no cure and in her case they have not found any cause. Did your Doc mention anything like that? The one symptom that sounded a little different was that you said your eye is swollen shut so that sounds a little different than hers but all of your other symptoms sounded very similiar.

I was just curious. Good luck I hope your eye gets better.

    Uveitis - PubMed Health

Uveitis is swelling and irritation of the uvea, the middle layer of the eye. The uvea provides most of the blood supply to the retina.

There's a small chance that it's a virus, but it's probably some kind of traumatic corneal abrasion. I thought it was just allergies, but apparently it wasn't. I've never in my life been in as much pain as I was in yesterday, and I've had a nasty prostate infection and broken a collarbone, an ankle, and several fingers (I was a catcher).

I'm not too manly to admit I actually teared up a little last night for the first time in probably 15 or more years. When they put those bright lights in it and did the eye pressure test — which pokes the eye — I thought I was gonna kill that poor E.R. doctor. They gave me a tetanus shot in my bicep when I was blindfolded, and I didn't even notice it.

  • Bad news: I still look like this today.

Good news: That's technically progress, if you remember last night's gnarly pic.

Best news: I still have to wear a patch for a while, so no one has to vomit when they see me in person. They can just laugh instead.

I used to get a non-contagious viral form of pinkeye that spreads through polen that enters your eyes...I had it every spring for the first three years after I move to Atlanta...
