And the fact is, Batman has always been marketed to children. Walk through a toy section at a store sometime...and when your 8 year old wants to see "the new Batman movie" and cannot/should not...I feel there's an issue.
The Prestige is easily Nolan's best film and it is still entirely consumed with the worst of humanity.

Go listen to Kevin Smith's interview with Mark Hamill (the voice of the Joker) on the "Fatman on Batman" podcast - I guarantee your perception of Batman as only a humorous character will be shattered. Or you can read the "New 52" series currently out - that is so dark it makes the Dark Knight series look like the 60s series (which Bob Kane hated because of how ridiculous it made everything).
