OT: iOS 6

  • I like that my iPad 3 actually has a clock app now. The new maps app is a piece of shit though. I want the old one back. I would go back to iOS 5 on my iPad if I could. The traffic sucks on the new maps app. I got a new iPhone 5 on Friday. I love the apple hardware, but I like the android OS a lot better mostly because i find it easier to switch between running apps smoothly. iOS feels so ancient, but all the android phones are just way too big. The battery in this iPhone 5 is sort of crappy. I used it very lightly today - 2 phone calls, a tiny bit of surfing, about 20 minutes of spotify use (and it was all downloaded media -no streaming) and I was looking for my charger at 5pm because it was down to about 20-25% charge. I would have gone with an LTE Android phone if there was hardware closer to the iPhone's form factor and quality. I will give credit to Apple though - they generally make for a good user experience. The responsiveness of the UI is very snappy and I think the accuracy of their onscreen keyboard is probably the best in the business, though I wish it had another row of keys so I wouldn't have to shift the keyboards so much.

the app was better for maps. Using safari is just not the same.

Bold call to go backwards with the second most used part of the phone.

Except Maps wasn't the second-most used part of the phone. in fact, it wasn't even in the top ten. Messages, Phone, Camera/Photos, Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Music, YouTube, Videos all are used more often than the Maps app.

I don't like the S3, to be honest. To me, it feels cheap and flimsy - and I think a large part of that is because of the screen size and how thin it is overall. I also prefer a phone screen I can easily navigate with one hand - there are occassions where I have to use two hands with the S3, which makes it feel more like a mini Kindle Fire or Nexus 7 than a phone.

  • Just read where Apple sold 5 million iPhones this weekend, whoa. But man, people are roasting Apple over the maps. Didn't realize it was that big of deal.

I don't even use my maps enough on my phone. I don't see the big deal about it.
