Offensive Talent

  • On paper, which SEC school will have better talent than the Vols next year?

We are returning an intact o-line, two good qbs, loaded at WR and very solid and promising backs.

This is reason for significant optimism in my humble opinion.....

  • I agree. We have to think about the Cincy game last year... plus Patterson and some other high caliber prospects. This is going to be an exciting season to watch! vols

  • Just thinking about reciver, who are they going to double team? If they try to double up on one the run game is going to open up. Then there will be two very good wide outs in single coverage. We will score a lot of points. D will be a question mark, but we have a lot of very good players on that side of the ball. Coach Sal fired me up last night when I heard him talk. I think we will be able to play with everyone next year and will win our fair share.rockon

  • Arkansas and UGA. I would Give UGA a slight nudge over us because of the rb depth. Crowell, Marshall, and Gourley is a sick rb combo and quite frankly scares the crap out of me.

  • Bama, UGA, Arkansas... The only reason I say Bama is because the majority of their O-Line returns and once again they will just bully teams at the line of scrimmage. Skill positions I'd have us over them.

Who does UGA and Ark return at wr? I dont remember who they have left. Doesnt Ark lose all their WR. UGA loses TE also.

It doesn't really matter who's at WR for Arky in that offense. Matt Milton would have 75 receptions lol

Uga returns Malcolm Mitchell and can't remember the other guy. But Mitchell is a beast. I only give uga the edge because of RB depth.

Heard a lot of speculation on radio here in the ATL that Crowell may be gone by years end and that he has never had to face competition and doesn't like it. Marshall's speed scares me but the good news is only one at a time can carry the ball. Two freshman with talent can run the ball but what about blocking for Murray and the other things that go into being a good back. We will face the same problem but of our guys Hill seems like his size and attitude may make him a valuable all around back.

I agree with your evaluation of Bama but I believe they will have to score more points this year because of losses on the D. Not a lot more but more none the less. WR could be the Achilles Heal for them if they have one.

Good post and agree with most of it. While the OL does come back intact it is a little suspect still. Here is hoping our new OL coach and maybe some fresh concepts can put us at or near top of SEC in terms of line play.

  • Bama has several good young WR's and signed a couple more yesterday...you just don't see them because they don't highlight them in their offense. And they win.

What's funny is that going into last season this exact phrase went around like crazy. Of course Montana and Cincy showed that no matter how could the passing game was, we weren't running the football well. I was one of the biggest banging this drum at the start of the season, so I'm not playing negative nancy or debbie downer. I'm just saying I would temper expectations on the being able to run the ball until it's proven. I do think the passing game will continue to be electric as long as the line continues to progress in pass protection.
