The so-called safe zone for that type of contact extended two yards into the end zone because of where the line of scrimmage was. That's why it wasn't called.

I've tried to explain to a couple of high school coaches why and when you take a safety out of the punt formation...only get confused looks and be written off.

I read about it in an AFCA coach of the year manual from about 1992 in an article by Grant Teaff.

I'm calling them all tomorrow to tell them "I told you so!"
