Ohio safety visits Tennessee

A three-star athlete from Westerville, Ohio, who claims more than 20 scholarship offers visited Tennessee for the first time earlier this month and came away impressed.

  • Another mid to high range 40 time is not what we need in our secondary. We need speed!

  • This kind of recruiting is why we are 0-5 in the SEC.

  • Thanks for the update, Ryan. This kid claims a pretty good offer list..., and I'd say it'll be tough to beat that relationship with Wisci

  • A 6'3" 210 with 4.6 speed ain't bad for the safety positions. ----
and a lot of good FB schools have offered so he must have something going.

I don’t understand why THIS kind of recruiting is why we are 0-5?! If your point is that Ball is a only a three star prospect, I would point to the fact that a 6'3 200+ pounds player that runs 4.6—the ideal speed for the safety position—can easily be coached up. On the other hand, if your point is that we should have offered him a while back I would suggest 4-star commit Kameron Miles, who is also being recruited by Coach Conklin, reduces the need to add multiple prospects to already deep safety position. In sum, TN's approach to a Ball is understandable. We have a great commit in Miles, there are other talented safety prospects still available--Vonn Bell comes to mind-- and the Vols are fairly deep at the safety position. What's there to criticize?!

  • I know we haven't offered yet but who cares if he's big, size doesn't make offensive players slow down. "Ideal" speed doesn't cut it in the SEC

My point this is the same profile for just about every db Dooley has signed while at UT and we see on Saturdays just how bad our back 7 is. This type of recruit has been Dooley's MO since he has gotten here, and they just aren't good enough to compete in the SEC

A 4.6 "ideal" speed doesn't cut it in the SEC for safties? Really?! Lets look at FACTS man. Antonio Allen (South Carolina) was the top overall safety taken in the 2012 draft and he ran a 4.67. Mark Barron (Bama), the 2nd best SEC safety in the draft ran a 4.56 and 4.58. Charles Mitchell, the 3rd best safety from the SEC ran a 4.63. Brandon Taylor (LSU) ran a 4.58. I can seriously go on and on but I think you ge the point, 4.6 is ideal for a saftey.

Just upvoted to you to counteract it. Thanks for shedding a little logical light on an argument that seemed allergic to it ;)

  • he has an offer from Notre Dame... we don't have a chance stir

  • Janzen Jackson ran a 4.57 at the NFL combine. Adrian Wilson ran a 4.53 at the NFL combine. A legit 4.6 40-yard dash for a high school senior is very good for the safety position.
