Ok, So where do you guys/gals shop for groceries? Why?

  • With apologies to Watauga, Ingles is not in Cleveland, TN. I like shopping at ALDI. This is a German company. The prices are low, The stores are clean. There are no name brands. The selection is minimal at best. Great shopping cart concept. A quarter must be inserted into the shopping cart to access a cart and upon returning the cart the quarter is returned. Never have I seen an ALDI cart anywhere outside the store but in the cart corral. The checkouts are very quick. You have to bag your own groceries with your own bags(ALDI does sell re-usable bags). The bar codes are in multiple locations on an item for quick scanning. The prices at ALDI are like Cas Walkers' meat...

  • Here's another plug for Aldi. Can't beat the prices. Store brands are generally comparable. Some of their stuff (especially things like frozen foods and canned soups) is better, for a lower price.

Can't beat Publix for variety and selection, but you pay for that luxury.

Our household motto is, "if you can get it at Aldi, don't get it anywhere else". Just wish their hours were like the chain grocers...but I assume closing when they do also helps keep costs down.

  • I actually shop at Ingles, most of the time. One of my students' families sells milk to ingles, so I like to patronize because of that. Food city too. They sell a good bit of local food. If I didn't live in an apartment i'd just grow my own food.

Aldi is a great choice for shopping for food . Being on a limited income because of retirement my wife and i have to be very frugal. We shop at Aldi and Sav-A-Lot. 90% Aldi and 10% Sav-A-Lot for meats.

The thread is titled appropriately and we do not have an over abundance of OT threads. You weren't lured here thinking it was something else. You can ignore it.

I've never seen a food city, but I only like to buy meat at places that cut and package their own meat. Walmart meat does suck. I just don't trust prepackaged and shipped meat.

  • I am somewhat surprised by the lack of walmart and more Whole Foods. Hopefully this is a sign of people are starting to realize the crap that is in all of our foods. I generally try to shop at the local mom and pop grocery called Sprouts.

No offense to watauga and +1 for his loyalty to his employer, but look out for Walmart. They have only begun to infiltrate the market. They plan to do to the grocery sector what they did to mom and pop stores on all the Main Streets across America.

Sprouts? That's a big chain out West.

Yea Harmon's. Their produce is more expensive so I buy the produce from Sprouts. Haha I guess I should have worded it a little different whoops.

I think the OP's intent was to gauge the level of UT presence in each of the different grocery stores. That way we can ensure that there will always be orange advocates in any given grocery store across the country, therefore exposing our presence and our fandom to recruits and their families. Everyone's gotta get groceries, what better place to casually yell out a "Go Vols!" at the Hurd family, the Kelly family or the Carter family for example? BTW, the Hurd family is partial to Whole Foods while the Kelly's are lifetime Kroger supporters, interestingly enough. I'm hoping W/R/K can get back with what grocery store Lorenzo Carter and his family shop at so we can start to put in work. biggrin

But anyways, I'm mainly a Kroger guy. Love the Boar's Head deli selection. Whole Foods sometimes.

(I hate that I even have to say this, but I know there are some on this board who are professionals at disregarding sarcasm: None of the above is truth...except the part about me...or is it?)

  • Watauga- answer me this- How would you handle this situation?
I go in the grocery and by five whole chickens and when I get home one of the chickens is ruined (not uncommon). I bring the receipt to you and ask for a new chicken. I did not bring the stinking chicken back with me.
Would you give me a new chicken?
