Old friends unite as Vols coaches

Sal Sunseri and John Palermo have never officially worked together until now, but Tennessee's new defensive coordinator and defensive line coach have been friends for years.

There's that word again 'technique'. With Palermo you can add 'fundamentals'. I like these guys. Thanks +1

  • I was excited last season at the possibilities our team presented. I knew it'd be rough, but was supremely hopeful. Well we know how that turned out, so by and large I'm practically foaming at the mouth for the Spring Practice let alone the season. I really feel this year is going to be more special than anyone will project or give us a chance. GBO!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm hoping we have a defense with an attack attitude like we had in the best years. Go get the quarterback. Force turnovers. Set the tempo.

Last year, we were too passive. I know a lot of it was that Wilcox didn't trust the secondary to man up. Hopefully, that attitude is history.

I agree. No knock on Wilcox but there was something about that defense last year that was missing. Even with their rankings it just wasnt that Vol defense we were used to seeing. It had no fire or passion, no risk taking. Seemed like they were just going through steps and thinking too much. I dont know.

  • I am really excited about CSS and Coach Palmero. They look like and talk like two peas in a pod. I truly believe our defense will see major improvements this coming season. And future recruiting will intensify because of the success of next season and the potential to be even better. Great hire by CDD.

They where being more REACTIVE than PROACTIVE . We want proactive !

  • All of the above plus their experience and attitudes as teachers make the outlook positive. But, more than that, what I like most is that these coaches believe in Tennessee. That attitude will pay huge dividends if it translates to the players and into games.

  • This defense is in some bad need of some of them there basic fundamentals as Johnny Majors used to say.
