Ole Miss Story

  • I was talking to a local high school football coach who had a highly recruited player this year here in Ms. He was not interested in Ole Miss but took an OV there out of respect to a lot of those around him. He comes from a strong Christian family and the mom found out when he got back from his visit that some of the coaches took them to a bar in Oxford called the Library and there he had beautiful co-eds hanging on his every word.

    His mom was ticked off and called Coach Freeze and told him that she did not appreciate his coaches taking him somewhere he wasn't supposed to be and where there was a lot of drinking going on. She also told him that there was no way she would let her son come to that school!

    This is probably typical at a lot of colleges but just thought I would share.

    Yeah, that's how the conversation got started with the HS coach I was talking with. We both said it probably happens at a lot of other places, maybe even most other places, but just shows Freeze plays the game like everyone else. (And this year maybe much more so.)

  • Yep, I personally don't think the NCAA will exist much longer with the way conference re-alignments are going... It's only a matter of time before the major colleges break away, form their own league, and start paying these guys, IMO. Way too much money involved with TV deals coming...

  • I just can't believe the guys their pulling in amazes me they say well maybe they all just want to play together where they can start yeah highly unlikely ole miss really I just don't see them having on to these guys if they do there is something up no doubt I think it will change on NSD

  • I really can't understand why Ole Miss is bringing in the highly rated recruits. I'm not going into political debate over this.... but Ole Miss doesn't have a lot of great tradition to hang its hat on.

  • It is easy to assume something is a little astray at Ole Miss given this seems to come out of nowhere. Maybe it is...or maybe it is the same as what goes on at other schools with the difference being that this year some of the top recruits (one of which who has a brother there and is not an Ole Miss guarantee) are recruiting each other and saying come here and be a part of a special class that no one saw coming. And let's face it...it seems like Freeze can recruit and he won some games this year too. I am not defending Ole Miss but saying that could obviously happen (remember UGA's super class a year or so ago when the top recruits were making that pitch to each other). And I think we have to be careful throwing around charges, especially if we close really strong (and we could jump quite a bit if we landed all who remain on our board). Someone could say the same about us.

    by the time freeze gets done with ole miss ...kiffin will look like a choir boy...ncaa will have a field day

    I can not tell you any schools who DON'T do this for recruits on OVs.

    TRUTH...and most places do a lot worse (or better) than just sending kids to the bar

    I don't remember the specifics, but wasn't there a story 2-3 years ago about players taking recruits on OVs to a high-profile program being taken to a strip club near the campus? It may have even been Miami...

    Many schools do that (Miami included) but I think you may be referring to the Colorado case.
