One thing is for sure

  • regardless who we hire, many will be unhappy. There are dozens of names being bantered around the various message boards an the responses are pretty much divided on each one. I'm sure Gruden is by far the favorite, but what if its not him? The rest of the candidates are like our presidential candidates...they just don't excite anyone.

You are right the other names will not generate excitement in the short term. Counzo certainly didn't excite anyone initially. I just want a winner. Winning will cure all our problems.

  • The people who will be unhappy are the people that believed Dooley would get it done all the way up until last week. There aren't many candidates at all I would be unhappy with. It just can't get much worse.

While I agree that whoever we get will be an upgrade, I can't say that anyone other than Gruden, Kelly, or Stoops would excite me. I'd be content with a Golden or Strong hire but I wouldn't be like omg we're gonna win it all.

  • While I didn't like the hire to begin with (another Hamilton Blue Light Special IMO), I like the guy and for the most part believe any coach deserves more than two recruiting classes to prove himself. It's apparent to me, after holding out hope (not belief) for a long time that we need someone else. I think it could certainly get worse and our best move would be to hire a proven NCAA D1 head coach. Who that coach is...I have no clue. If that doesn't work then we have to look at coaches like Todd Grantham, The OC and or DC at the 49ers, Willie Taggart etc. I garonetee you any of those would start a civil war.

Careful now. I believed CDD deserved a 4th year until last week, but I'd be happy with several of the names I've seen that are not Petrino, Franklin or Kiffin. I think Gruden, Stoops, Patterson, Gundy, Golden, Strong, Fisher, Mullen, Fulmer, and several others could come in and win.

I don't think that has anything to do with anything. People were divided about Kiffin and about Dooley and will be divided about anyone that's hired. Even Gruden. But with Gruden it'll be a lot less divided. People were even divided about Fulmer. I'll be pulling for whoever the majority is pulling for which is Gruden. If he turns it down I'll just go down the line of who the favorite is because if the fans are united then the team will be united and it'll be a hell of a lot more fun than the last three years that had a bunch of people whining every game from the time Dooley stepped on the field.
