Opinions on the Vandy Game Saturday

  • Just curious if i'm the only person who doesn't think this week's game is going to be an easy win for Tennessee? I'm also feeling a lot like this game is going to show how the players are reacting to all of the rumors about Dooley.

I know UT has dominated Vandy for years but we also dominated UK for years as well until well.... you know the rest.

Does UT show up and play like they were expected to play or do they play it close and come up short because of bad defense and special teams?

  • I'd be shocked if Tennessee won this week. Dooley has never won a game at UT as an underdog. Floow the trend.

  • We were an underdog to Vandy last year and we won.

It was close, but you're not completely accurate.

Drizzle no matter how bad we are we always beat vandy and plus Dooley is 2-0 vs vandy and it will also be neyland Jr it will be a home game for us

  • Just going off the sample of Vol fans I speak to throughout the week up in the Clinton industrial park, I haven't heard one that thinks we are going to win this week. I think we can win, but we will need to build off of the defensive adjustments we made last week.

I hope you are right but Vandy isn't the usual Vandy, and we barely beat them last year when it was a home game for us.

If i remember correctly, we moved to a favorite in Vegas on the day of the game.

  • I have my doubts about this game. I think it will be a shootout and the last team with the ball wins or we could possibly get beat pretty bad. I don't think either defense can stop the offenses and i have a bad feeling that this could be one of those games that Bray doesn't have his head in. I hope that he learned a lesson last year in the KY game but we will see. I will be there with my orange on pulling for the Vols. Hopefully we get a win but i would not bet money on it.

If it's a shootout I hope it doesn't come down to our kicking game.

Vandy allowed over 400 yards passing against Ole Miss, so their weakness is our strength. Their O line is a bit banged up and undersized, and Zac Stacy is hurt and may not play. So their running game may suffer. The concern is Rogers. He is mobile and buys time to find receivers, which should cause concern for every vol fan. Dores have two really good receivers, and if Rogers is able to consistently break contain and find open receivers, could be a long night. Could be a decent game to be a bit heavier on the blitz since we dont have as much to fear in the run game, and we want to force Rogers to get rid of the ball quickly. It's about the only chance we have of getting our corners to cover their receivers.

Irrespective, we should still move the ball effectively, especially through the air. My prediction: 38-27 Vols.

Stacy's status could be a huge factor. But it seems like Vandy has all the momentum. They have overachieved, they are playing well, and they play hard for there coach. Meanwhile we have underachieved AGAIN, are playing horrible on defense, and have a coach that just doesn't know how to win. I'm going 41-30 Dores...

Vandy fans are going to be hyped for this one, and so will the players, not sure our players are going in with the right mindset. We are not the better team.

Are you sure about this? Guy wants to bet me we have never been an underdog to Vandy. I honestly can't remember.

  • Not to be a downer, but Tennessee has yet to win a close game, and there's really no hope in my mind that our defense can stop anyone. Hopefully the offense can produce a considerable amount of points to which the game isn't close.

    UTDelt91

  • there have been a few exceptions but vandy seems to play inspired D against us. [ remember peyton's Sr. yr.] i'm afraid they are going to play better D against us this time around than they usually do. i'm pretty worried.

    Does Troy count?

I would guess this game will be similar to every other SEC game we've played (minus Bama). High scoring, doing what we want on offense and allowing whatever they want on defense. All the numbers and perceptions are clearly pointing to Vandy, but this is probably more of a toss-up than what it appears. But still, it scares me. We just love finding ways to lose.

If Dooley already is past the point of no return, no way I'm going to root for a loss to solidify that. I feel so bad for these kids. A loss to UT would just be more salt in the wound that is the 2012 season. It would just be embarrassing. For as hard as they have worked, they need some kind of good memory from this season.

The Vandy game wasn't always an easy win for Tennessee when were good. Let's just hope that this one isn't an easy win for Vandy.
