Otis Jacobs makes signing-day switch

  • I can't wait until we get to Bama like prominence and can become the teams that tell players to look elsewhere that we got someone better. I understand that we got depth at DB but come on not with speed like him. If he is any good with that speed and that length he should be able to start for us.

    Someone said that if A&M was not coming into SEC this would be easy get. Sorry... but SEC players don't often look at depth chart a couple days before and pick the school that he has a better chance to play at early and becomes afraid to compete. I know I know its a JUCO guy and playing early is important and it should be. But if you can't earn a spot at Tenn with out size and speed deficiencies then I do not think the SEC thing should have come into play. SEC players are willing to compete.

    Well having said that... I hope we get to play him and Rogers catches a ball in traffic and Jacobs lowers his head and lays a lick on Rogers. And then bounces off like all those other small turds do and Rogers comes out with the ball and Jacobs gets up stumbling and needed to come out. Look at it this way: With WR U coming back to Tenn. Stud DB's need to come to Tenn.. just so they don't have to defend Hunter and Rogers and others in company! Screw this! Needless to say, bball practice got a lot more intense after a got a text during practice today about both Jacobs turning on us!

    Well from two to a maybe four prospects we were hoping to get, we landed a big fat goose egg. None of them. I was sure hoping to see some help on the D-line. Hope Dooley has something planned, but don't think he does.

    As I was writing this We got Sentimore. One is better than none.

  • I understand everyone has a right to change their mind,but recruiting is getting ridiculous!The NCAA should do something in the future.I think once a kid makes a verbal commitment,other schools shouldn't be allowed to contact them!And if they change their mind after they give their verbal,they should have to sit out their first year!I think that would correct some of this insanity we call recruiting!I know it's just a couple a guys(for now)but now the coaching staff is gonna have to scramble to replace them and talk to some guys they either haven't talked to at all or haven't talked to in awhile!

    They had a coaching change. You have to expect turnover when you do. Our coaches found out AFTER he faxed his papers to A&M that he was no longer a Vol.

    At least he gave our staff a courtesy call after the fact unlike Autry and D. Jacobs, so I'll rescind the part about hoping he fails. I just don't care either way.

    He still didn't handle it the right way.

    Uhhhh.he did call. Oldest trick and excuse in the book...my phones not working. You know damn well someone from UT was waiting for his call plus I am sure he could have used another phone from somewhere..he wasn't man enough to tell Dooley. That's the bottom line. No excuses. He just showed what he is made of...pure shitttt.

    I agree. Maybe this will open the door for someone better.

    I do know this though, a lot more can happen between now and NSD!

    I'm looking forward watching A&M play in the SEC and be apart of the best conference in College Football. Hopefully Sumlin will make A&M competive in the SEC. Jabocs was an A&M commit since July, and got mad at the coaching change a few weeks ago. He did UT and A&M are both great schools and they are, but be able to play close to home I think was the reason he decided on A&M. I hate to say it, same reason Dalton Santos will change to A&M as well.

  • The part I don't like about this is not that he did not sign with us, but we had 2 or 3 that were commited and that was a plus last year when we did not loose any of the commitments we had. I understand Cross--that was a mutual parting but I don't believe any of the Juco's we lost today were mutual...we wanted and needed them all.

    I wish him the best every week except the UT week, that said if this was the man he is/will be did we need him? all the issues we have had we will be fine. Just got to keep the class in shape and coach em up.

  • Well, he's not stupid. He looked at the depth charts. And he was right. UT has much more depth at DB. If you're a JUCO guy, you have to pic a place where you will play as soon as possible. That's what he did.

    The DT pickup by the Vols was key. Dooley is putting together another good class. I foresee a very good season for the Vols. Last season was to be expected, especially with the injuries they suffered. Sure they should have beat UK. But the overall record was not a surprise. And anyone who thinks otherwise is living in fantasy world.

    welcome to the board JBakes !! you will really like it here ; your point about his being stupid is well put but i think the point is that he could come in immediately and start at CB despite our starting CB returning next year . This kid is a difference maker and supposedly a "special" player and right now we dont have that kind of a player starting for us at CB ( esp with that kind of speed )
