Our Possible Starters...

  • I've come up with what our starting group could potentially look like in 2013. I am assuming that Bray, Hunter and Patterson go, but everyone else stays:

    Offense:

    Skills:

    QB: Justin Worley
    RB: Marlin Lane/Rajion Neal
    WR: "Pig" Howard/Vincent Dallas/Marquez North?/Drae Bowles
    TE: Brendan Downs

    OLine:

    LT: "Tiny" Richardson
    LG: Marcus Jackson
    C: James Stone
    RG: Zach Fulton
    RT: Jawuan James

    Defense:

    DLine:

    DE: Darrington Sentimore
    DT: Daniel McCullers
    DT: Maurice Couch
    DE: Marlon Walls

    Linebackers:

    SLB: Curt Maggitt
    MLB: AJ Johnson
    WLB: Jacques Smith

    Secondary:

    RCB: Eric Gordon/Daniel Gray
    LCB: Justin Coleman
    FS: Brian Randolph
    SS: LaDarrell McNeil

    Special Teams

    K: Michael Palarady
    P: Matt Darr

Overall, the offense looks good outside of the inexperience at WR. Defensive front 7 looks solid IMO, but that secondary scares me with the inexperience at cornerback. Special Teams is going to be a wait-and-see affair like it's been the last 3 years. What do you guys think?

  • Couple notes:

Jason Croom or Cody Blanc would be more likely than North at WR. We don't even know if he'll come here. Also, even if he does the others are more likely to start Day 1.

Jacques Smith won't start at LB in a 4-3. I don't know who starts there (Sapp? Bynum?).

Nas Oliver? Coleman, Bonner, Orta are all more likely.

  • Not much pass rush on that DL. Think you'll see Big Mac go pro, Sentimore at DT , Smith and Williams at DE

Forgot about Coleman for some reason. I'll slot him in Oliver's spot. I do think Eric Gordon will get a shot at CB though.

  • I think we'll see a lot of 3-wide sets with a TE

    WR- Blanc/Harris/Croom?
    WR- Dallas/Patrick/Carter
    WR- Pig/Bowles/Smith

    TE- Croom?/Meredith/Downs

We need Blanc to exceed the hype he was getting in the Spring. Also need Harris and Smith to come in ready to play. Both have great speed. We have a LOT of unprovens at WR but with a good hire, I think we'll be ok there.

Croom could have a huge year at TE if he stays there and be our offensive MVP.

I'm hoping Peterman starts at QB. I've been wanting a mobile QB for years

Croom and Downs could make a formidable TE duo; both guys have good hands and Croom will have some nice speed. I had forgotten about Paul Harris, and he could certainly be a factor as well as Cody Blanc. Receiver will be a position to watch during the spring because of the inexperience there. I have a feeling that Pig Howard is going to explode next year; he could be used a lot of different ways in a Butch Jones offense. He would be my early prediction for offenseive MVP.

Yeah I agree. Really excited to se what PIg and Croom can do in this offense and also Raijon Neal. We know he can catch the ball and we know he can fly so Butch may elect to move him into the slot on occassion, especially if Lane continues to develop. Lane played well toward the end of the year.. 362 yards in our last 4 games on just 53 carries. That's 6.8 ypc

I was really impressed by Lane during the Vandy game; he was carrying piles on almost every play

  • I wouldn't be surprised to see Jaron Toney crack the 2-deep by fall camp next year. That kid really impressed me at the end of the year when he finally started getting his shot. He seems like he's got potential at safety (not saying he'll start over McNeil and Randolph... not a chance) and he's probably a lock as our 5th DB in nickle and dime. Not the most physically gifted DB we have but he seemed to be involved in play after play in the secondary.

Of course with our defense, there were plenty of opportunities to be involved if you were in the secondary....

Didn't Toney used to be a RB and convert to a DB?

  • What do you guys think about LaTroy Lewis in the 2-deep at DE?

Possible. Think it'll be Smith, Williams, Walls, and Miller but Lewis could crack it

    volfan28

  • What about Lanier (if he's eligible) and Moore in the Cb/Db role?

Yes. I believe you are correct. I just thought he played really well when he got his chance. I'm sure he wasn't perfect but I know I heard his named called frequently in the last 4-5 games and I usually liked why.
