Our defense.......

  • Talking with a bunch of friends and fellow alums tonight regarding the state of our program. It was the consensus that this defense was the worst we have seen in our 31-33 yrs on this planet. Granted, most of us dont remember the D's from the 80's.......but it is hard for me to fathom a UT defense more inept at stopping long runs and any pass.

My personal breaking point was during the SC game, 3rd and goal from the 30yd line after a sack. I made the comment "How sad is it that i dont feel confident even in this situation".........right before they threw a TD pass to their TE who somehow got wide open.

I think this season is SO much more frustrating and sad because our crap defense is wasting quite possibly the best offense in the SEC, and most assuredly the best UT offense since Peyton.

Had to vent. Getting old staying beat down as a UT fan with no real light at the end ofthe tunnel, except possibly from the train that is another coaching change.

I'd agree, I'm not sure if statistically they are the worst, but they can't be far off. Wouldn't surprise me they are worst by a large margin either.

  • Agree, but be prepared to be called "a non Vol fan", "fair weather fan", "Dooley hater", "knee jerk reaction fan", "impatient", "a complainer" and so on. And 4-5 down votes.

Not great talent wise but not the worst. They are the worst performance and coaching wise I have seen in 55 years of being a fan.

Though the post wasn't necessarily bright, it was very true. It wasn't crazy over the top negative or disrespectful. No down vote from me.

Don't understand....."wasn't necessarily bright, it was true"? Meaning it wasn't bright because it was true and the truth hurts or it wasn't bright because it didn't spin some kind of positive?

Not hard to understand. You must have read it wrong.

I was simply saying that although it was not a sunshine pumper, which you have made vividly clear is what everyone on this site loves and everything else is down voted, I will not down vote it. Simply put, not all posts pointing out negative aspects of our program is down voted. Just mainly the ones that do so in a manner that is disrespectful, over the top, or malicious.

I think you both agree, it's just that you're using the word "bright" in two different ways. Bright as in "happy, optomistic" and bright as "intelligent". Although me adding my needless interpretation at 6:30 am because I can't sleep, even on Troy gameday isn't the brightet thing inthe world either.

Frost, I was thinking the same thing on that 3rd & goal from the 30...but never would have scripted a TD!! Total embarrassment. I think most objective & realistic VOL fans suspected that this switch to the 3-4 was going to be a challenge for all kinds of reasons. We've seen the same thing w/other programs making the switch. But dang, this has been a complete nightmare...cost us the MSU & SC games for sure.

The play reminded me of Danny Wurfall (cant remember the spelling) in 97 I think, throwing a 52 yd TD on the opening drive on 4th and 8. It set the stage for a 35-6 gator lead at halftime. Regardless of the unbelivably pathetic defensive coordination, I see some light at the end of the tunnel. If our defense progresses in the off-season the way our running game did this past off-season we will be in much better shape. At this point though I am not sure that our coordinator isn't
in over his head. Our running game, with our O-line, will hopefully take another step in the off-season. If our D can improve at all, and we don't have to play from behind all the time, and we can score and also play some ball control when we need to, I think a 10 win season is possible. Of course I am an optimist and thought we would surely win the East this year....LOL.
